hey boys,
Amy "MeiHua" Gross has decided to take the fight with Kristy Lister at 67kg under Thai rules, so i guess there'll be a few Mod Thai bouts on as well. we initiallly proposed this fight a while ago. then it went to pending Kristy making the weight. we hadn't heard anything and assumed that it was off. then yesterday i get a call from Alan saying "mate.. she did it, she's made the weight". & we're like "oh ****... really" so it looks like we're off to adelaide this weekend then. it's a bit of a last minute thing for us now, but we'll be there with bells on

Some of the fights I heard that might be taking place on Saturday night are:
Amy Gross (melbourne) vs Kristy Lister (Alan Wong)(Thaiboxing)
Kyle Foster vs Shaun Linley (state title fight)
Shane Caldwell vs ??
Plus some kickboxing and boxing fights. Should be a good night.

on my third coffee now and starting to feel a little more human thanks bushi.
we arrived late off the plane from melb so i didn't see most of the guys/girls weigh in. Amy tipped the scales at 66.1kg and Kristy at 66.4kg so they're spot on and both under the agreed weight. so we're all happy.
hooked up with dutts and we'll probably have lunch about 3pm.. hehehe... i can keep you updated if ya like... hehehe.
nah the show looks to be quite good, with a mixture of fights on the night. i think about 4 or 5 thaiboxing, some kickboxing and Boxing fights, i think there is about 13-15 fights on tonight so it should be a cracker. i'm told that John Chaniotis's last 3 promotions have completely sold out and as a result he's moved to a larger venue. i think they are expecting around 800- 1000 spectators.
anyway, i'll do my best to keep you up to date bushi

Not a great night of action bar a few fights here and there. I dont think the mix of Boxing - Thai/Kickboxing mixes well at all.
Amy lost a split desicion to Kristy Lister from Alan Wongs...this could have gone either way from.
Shaun Lindley won the WKA Sa Lightheavyweight title over Kyall Forster on points.
Cant rember other results excpet that Allan had 2 first timers who both won with Anita looking very promising.

HI ZDK
Hmmm I saw the action close up but my eyes keep diverting towards this Chillean ring girl I meet WOW!!!
Much of the fight was spent in the grapple and both girls took each other to the ground several times. IMO towards the latter part of the fight I thought Amy scored stonger more affective knee strikes which I thought would have gotten her across the line.
Put it this way I guess, if the fight had been a mirror image in Melbourne Amy would have won the split.

Yer we have to get your guys back from all the times weve lost in Melbourne...I remember years ago getting told that unless you KO your opponent when fighting in Melbourne you have no chance of winning.
I used to spend alot of time training with Kyall who fought for the SA title last night and sat in the corner in frustration as he was beaten by lack of preperation. Now that both Kyall and Kuy have both been beated by the same guy I will have to ask my fragile neck to give me 6 weeks so as to seek revenge
Meet Tao and Amy briefly over the weekend and would have liked to catch up with them more so hopefully we can get them both back on a Sheppster promotion.

Amy Vs Kristy was indeed a very close fight. I knew that Tao was going to get Amy to grapple Kristy because of her superior height advantage. However we were prepared for that and Kristy did win the first round. The second in my eyes was even but thats me judging. The third I would have given to Amy so in my card I would have called the fight a draw.
The fight as a whole was untidy but that always is the case when the whole fight is grappling. Tao was not happy with the decision and rightly so.
Hometown decision.....well I have had a few hometown decision against me in Melbourne so deal with it ZDK. Sorry your girl AMY lost but thats the way it goes.

Hey Dutts,
what makes you say lack of preperation? As far as I know the young lad from fight club, trains quite often and as far as I can see with the combination of training he was doing plus studying for and doing Year 12 exams, he did what he could.
Perhaps too many men in the corner on the night telling too much at once could cause some confusing moments for the boy.
when were you last a fight club watching him train?

Perhaps a rematch, as the girls in that weight division seem to find it hard to get regular fights....and there's NO doubt you prep your fighters well..

The boy should have thought more about his exams instead of fighting, but it was his choice. If it was my boy and he knows I mean it, exams come first. You can always fight but at school you only get one chance don't fcuk it up like most of us on this forum, I ended up goig back to college at the age of 37 to get a better job, not that I didn't mind working for the council in Parks and Gardens for 13 years but it is a dead end job....

Yes I no Kyall trains hard and lost about 6kgs to get down to that weight. A busy schedule he leads but so do most of us right?
Too many men in the corner hey? What you would rather I sat there and said nothing and not tell him what I see he needs to do to win the fight? IMO opinion and in this case or Kuys case no way!
Lack of prep yes I say this and by this I mean a lack of hard and long sparring and grappling sessions. These boys who are all good friends of mine have been sparring with each other over and over, neither perhaps sticking it to each other every now and then. They no each other styles well and all this combined means they lack pressure situations they need for the ring. Sure if they are fighting reguarly being brought out of there cofort zone wouldnt be needed as much.
Last time I was at Fight Club was not long ago actually were I was watching our mate on the pads.
Once again we come across keyboard bandit!

morning all,
it seems it already been posted that i was upset by the decision against amy on sat night. i agree with alan that kristy won the first round, but i then believe amy went on to win the 2nd and 3rd convincingly. Unfortunately, the "judges" decided differently.
fortuantely alan has agreed to a rematch, which we will take... but i'll be wanting it outside of SA... in saying that tho, i dont want it to take place in melb either... QLD or WA will suit us the best. that way we'll all be on neutral ground.
We were happy to fight kristy and she's certainly a tough girl. prior to sat we hadn't seen her fight and were unsure about her, but now we look forward to the rematch early next year.
thanks to everyone and also congrats to josh's lad from barossa muaythai who won the SA light heavyweight title. and thanks to cayle (? Spelling) for helping in my corner.

hi bushi,
yeah basically, i felt it was a judging problem... it was indeed a close fight, so its not like it was some drastic F*CK UP so to speak. but i feel the rematch will be better fought on a QLD or WA WMC show where there is more understanding of Muaythai scoring, thats all.

why are you windging about amy getting beat? Why not accept the decision and move on rather than suggest some stupid rematch in enother state for a goddam amateor fight. Some trainers are so protective about the chicks they train.
Alan Wong
28-11-2005, 04:54 PM
Good point Fever. However you must understand that Tao is very serious about his charges and their training. I can understand his feelings even though I would have made different suggestions regarding a rematch.
It can be tough for a trainer as well as the fighter esp a female fighter. It is difficult to get fights for males and even more so for females. They train as hard as the guys and if they lose a hard to come by fight then its a real let down.
I will not condemn Tao for what he says. he's not being protective, just enthausiastic.

Maybe thaiboxr it could be promoted on a show in, say NSW, perhaps a JNI show..
JNI supports female fighters and also Thai fights...I'm sure the crowd would be appreciative of a good hard fight..
As for seeing locals, yes I agree wholeheartedly, that's what the locals want, but the crowds also appreciate just good solid competition in amongst it all.
Zambo v any of his o'seas opponents, can hardly call that locals, sure different levels, but as Alan correctly said, it's hard enough getting fights matched at the best of times, so a rematch wouldn't go astray...and yeah, why not interstate...it's great experience for the fighters to fight under different promoters.

Yeah prob wasn't a good example Voice, the point I was trying to make is that genuine crowds don't mind good fights, doesn't always have to be hometown....we're not talking a whole card, just some undercard fights..
Geez, some of the Brute Force shows had main events (especially the card v the Thai's), where we had Elson, Riddler and Chris White, all NON Victorians as the 3 main events...
The crowd was there to see these guys and ALSO support the locals, ie JTS & Sityodtong on the undercard..

Ok, so if that's the case, no more female fights on any card if you had your way....
Shame that..and telling people how it is... actually FAR from it really, just have an opinion, just as you do and IMHO I don't mind watching good fights...
Have seen quite a few good female fights and ALWAYS respect the girls for getting in there and giving it THEIR best, they train, they want to fight, why hold them back, because they're female...not in my eyes, they're fighters first and foremost..so why should they be not given the same chance..
Again just my opinion..gotta go now...off to the gym...(to watch people train)..

TAO @ JTS
29-11-2005, 01:15 PM
morning boys,
i do agree with some of your points fever... and i understand that its quite an investment for a promoter to fork out the cash for such a fight... my angle on this would be: perhaps a promoter that is bringing fighters from both my gym and alan's, to fight other locals may incl. the two girls so that they can get it on again.
and on the matter of them fighting again:
have a look in your copy of IK mag and have a look at where these two girls are in the rankings and you'll get an idea as to why we want the rematch and as to why i have these feelings about the result. a rematch is to us, exactly what is needed for our further progress. as far as Fevers comments about if you cant beat them in their hometown train harder... go tell that to JWP about his fight with Zambo here in melb. the hardest place to win a fight is in the opponents hometown, as anyone will agree.
on the interstate thing:
S.A has strict regulations about compulsory head gear for fighters who haven't had an MRI (at $500 a pop, not many have) also fighters must wear shin pads. these regulations dont suit us and i was unaware of them prior to going.
but finally i'm not really concerned with what you guys think about a rematch between amy and kristy or where it'll take place. both of these girls have what it takes to become champions, and the fact that you guys dont consider them worthy or rematches or ring time, by not being professionals or not being on the cover of IK mag etc, doesn't deter me from pursuing their best interests as fighters.

thats a bit harsh mate.. there has been plenty of talent that has come from W.A
how far back are you reffering to? Maybe you are forgetting people like Oliver Olsen when he was in his prime, Daniel Dawson, Darren Curovic, Jeremy Allen, Blair Smith etc... Also fighters from earlier back were quite good aswell.
also as muaythai is still a developing sport it is hard to critisize any fighter that trains and fights 100% to their ability. any fighter who contributes to the sport by competing, which keeps these shows on, has earnd my respect..

I think Tao forgot to mentioned that I rang him a few days prior to the event and informed him about the protective gear. I asked the promoters if they told him and was told that they didn't so i took it upon myself to inform Tao. The only mistake I made was to tell Tao that the shin pads are the "wet suit" material ones but unfortunately the promoters decided to use the cotton type.
Maybe Tao forgot that i mentioned it to him since he is such a busy trainer going all over the country. i am a fair man so i think it was fair that i mentioned it before hand. And if it makes things better, Kristy had never fought in protective gear before too so i think that even up the contest.
