Time to BRING BACK SAM GRECO as he would KNOCK them both out on the same night!!But for this one my money is on Ozcan to send Longinides to LALA land with a combo of hooks which Stan will be to slow and to weak to evade. In reality it should not be happening.Gurkan should concentrate on the 78 kg catergory.Unless this is just a one off which i personally feel Gurkan may have wanted for more than a few years.
As for Baris -If he fights intelligently and LISTENS to Jamal Hassan and does not allow his ego to take over then I feel he has the experience, power and intelligence to win the fight convincingly and possibly even KO Mic for the first time.Nezifs straight right reminds me of former Middleweight KO puncher Julian Jackson. He needs to be PATIENT!!! He is a technically FAR superior fighter. When i first saw this kid in Sydney against Brian Speed he lost but everyone new he would be something special.

deanspartan, do you think Stan is THAT old and past his prime?
Personally I cant see Gurkan having the variety of attack to seriously hurt Stan. As long as Stan is at ooooh 50% of what he used to be, he should take out Gurkan at some point. JMO.
Michael, you are having us on aren't you? You couldn't be serious. Why would Stan fight Gurkan a supermiddleweight? What happened to the special tournament at 78kg? What happened to Dekker and Ambrose?

Stan's site said a week ago that the challenge had been made to Stan! I am guessing they showed him the $$$ (surely it would have been big dollars in this one) and it's on!
We all had this suprised reaction when Gurkan was gonna fight Watt and Gurkan suprised us! This fight is risky for an old legend remy, if he lost its immediate retirement. My moneys on Stan but this will be the best atmosphere at an event for YEAR! Tarik can already see the bums on seats forthis one

I have no motive for lying my friend... it's been booked... see you there Feb 17
:)
Everybodies money will be on Stan. He has the leg kicks, Gurkan has problems with his legs. That's just one point. There are others.
stan shouldn't even be fighting gurkan.stan has mixed it up with the best in the world,in the HEAVYWEIGHT division.gurkan got his arse kicked against medium heavys in australia no disrispect to those fighters.stan will easily win this, and wont knock him out until later in the rounds just so we can get our moneys worth thats the type of guy he is.

Bob how could you say easily, what happened to Adam Watt??? my predicion Ozkan to win, i am still in shock that this fight is going to happen but i belive there will be some crook buisness involved in this what do you guys think?
allanf.gurkan ozkan is a great super middleweight champion, not a great heavyweight champion,as to gurkan beating watt you summed it up nicely.crook business
It's a little unfair to say Ozkan beat Watt crook business. It seems if Gurkan loses its ok and if he wins it was rigged. That's unfair to Gurkan and Watt.

How disapointing...
instead of having two great fights, we might see one or a freak show of a fight. Both Stan & Gurkan should fight good opponents in there own weights.
When's the K-1 Oceania??? let the winner fight Stan. That'll keep the cost down a see a better matchup (if money is a issue).
Question Guys:
1. Do u think Tarik/Ozkan a planning to continue fighting heavies so he gets a shot at the K1 (Changpuek gave the same weight away)???
2.Is this a Greek vs Turk fight night??
Ok Michael, I believe you now. I thought it might have been a joke it seemed so surreal. I was just surprised that Stan would have accepted such a fight but I guess money talks. I'll be there. When do tickets go on sale?

It's been an amazing year for Ozkan
and this fight here the biggest surprise of all I think.
I'm sure it will be an interesting one.
I'm not going to underestimate the damage a pissed off Stan can do with low kicks. He's also an amazing boxer with brilliant hooks and over-hand rights, but Ozkan is having an amazing run and is very hungry.
I'm kinda dissapointed though. I was looking forward to the Under 78 + Stan on the same show.
Does anyone know what's going on with that now?
Is it going to be held at a latter date?
I must say that Nezif Vs Zambidis makes up for it, but I just hope that it does end up happening later.
HOLLY SH*%T BALLS!!!!
I think this event is going to attract a huge crowed. It is this sort of hype that excites croweds like those old grudge matches such as Gurkan v Jacobs, Stan v Sam (ect) that fuelled the crowed with loads of emotion. However "Traad" makes a valid point. Considering the last Gurkan v Watt fight and now this! It kind of feels like a bit of a freak show that is sending Kickboxing down a definate road towards a tacky overhyped sport like the WWF.
Personally I would love to see Tosca Petrides fight Stan Longinides. Now what a grudge match! Please, please, please Tarik make this fight happen.
I know that I will definitly be at the show screaming till my throat is sore for both Stan and Gurkan.

wow
what a match up, it's going to be hard for
Gurkan especially with leg kicks.
i was speaking to grant barker about stan who he fought
twice,. And he was telling me that stan had the most powerful
leg kicks and he had ever felt. and according to mark 'hammer'
and micheal S
thats were gurkan it more vonurable.
but any way carn't wait for it. goodluck to both boys.
and it's good that more big shows are being made so the public can get into this awsome sport.
WHY DON'T THEY GET STAN TO FIGHT MARK HUNT AND GURKAN TO FIGHT CARNAGE IN KICK BOXING RULES.
I KNOW THAT GURKAN WILL FIGHT ANYBODY ANYWHERE, BUT WILL STAN DO THE SAME THING BY FIGHTING HUNT.

Stan vs Gurkan will be a huge event.
The way I see it Stan doesn't have to prove a thing to anybody, in fact I wouldn't even fight again if I was him but apparently they have dangled some huge $$$ in front of him. Stan vs Hunt? What for? It would be great but It's a guy in his prime against a faded great, Stan doesnt need to prove a thing to anyone. He will make his $ and leave. If Stan was a big mouth who challenged Hunt different story, but everyone knows Stan is on his way out (including him) and Hunt has the world out there.

Bloody great - will bring the house down!
I must say Gurkan is looking sharper but his legs will not take Stans kicks! No Chance!
Gurkan buckled under Arthur T's kicks a few months ago and when he fought Adam it was above waist kicks so Gurkan was 'protected' - also remeber Stan can definetly take a punch! I agree with BoB, if Stan trains hard, comes out like a maniac as in the old days, he will DEMOLISH, repeat DEMOLISH Gurkan, but I believe he will put on a show, as he did with Peter Graham, who has beaten Ozkan, last time Stan and Graham met. If you remember that encounter, even Graham buckled in the 2nd round to a Stan leg kick, but Stan simply backed off from that point on.

very intelligent and well spoken opinion umz. Let's not forget that gurkan could beat stan, tyson, hoost, alexio, tosca and probably 10 other guys in one night, one after the other. Why? Duhh he's turkish! Blind support for the turk, gotta love it!

JANER,JANER,JANER...
Mate we know that you are a huge Ozkan fan.. "but" to suggest that it is more dangerous for Stan over Gurkan, may come to haunt you. remember Stan can Box, slip, counter, kick, check as good as just about anyone, plus the fact that Gurkan is no longer a spring chicken either makes for an interesting matchup, but geeez how many times have we have seen Stan kick butt when he is pissed off!
Gurkan is a big puncher, but so are all the K1 fighters who Stan has fought in the past.
A major point would be ... How will Gurkan nullify Stans leg kicks? What will he do? hhhmmmm! To just suggest that Stan will ge KOed maybe asking too much.
Cheers mate..

06-11-2002, 11:01 PM
Gurkan knows how strong Stan's legs are, they are the best in the buisness, so Gurkans legs must be in top shape, nothing should go wrong, if he belives in him self, i strongly belive a Ozkan victory, cant wait.
Top shape or not, it doesn't take many leg kicks by Stan to do some damage. Gurkan has to avoid the kicks, I don't know how well Gurkan will be able to check them. Gurkan fighting out of range and jumping in, mixing it up, and then jumping out of reach again is probably the best bet. He doesn't want to sit there and trade with a heavyweight. Won't prove anything, and he will reduce his chance of any success dramatically.
How many rounds is this fight? 3 minute or 2 minute rounds?
delusion
13-11-2002, 10:56 AM
what do u mean Sash by blind support
Now i think that gurkan is a great fighter, but lets be real Gurkan coudn't take the leg kicks from Chris Chrishopaliti how will he take it from Stan.
Stan might be getting old but he still beat Peter Graham and Graham is up there with tha best of them. Stan can go off with his hands as well. Maybe if it was the same rules as the Watt fight i would give gurkan even money, but as it it isn't i say Stan will do him inside three rounds.
JANER
14-11-2002, 09:46 AM
Gurkan was anhilating christopolidis, if the ref stopped the fight early it would of been a just decision. Chris' legs didnt hurt ozkans, but a knee to Gurkans ribs is what made him fall to the ground.
I agree Mick, if it is above waist Gurkan has a far better chance of winning. I know stan has been watching Gurks for a number of years while ringside and I bet my life that stan has been hanging to fight Gurks and show that he could take him away easily. Stan is a smart fighter and he would of done heaps of homework before they jump in the ring. I just hope we see the Gurkan of old and go spastic, I dont see gurks holding the kicks well.... He cant just sit there and not check against the worlds most powerfull kicker!
rebel
14-11-2002, 11:12 AM
I disagree Janer, why on earth would Stan sit there for years hanging to fight Gurkan? I doubt he cared! this fight was offered to him by Tarik (and I bet anything that a huge purse is what lured him back) and he took it. I seriously doubt he ever planned to or thought about or wanted to fight Gurkan.

because I know Stan personally.
Do tell Janer.
I've known Stan for 15 years and can't seem to recall him "hanging out" to fight Gurkan Ozkan.
Why would a guy who was at that time the biggest heavyweight name in the world set his sights in his career on a guy who was at that time a super middleweight?

1 . Stan of recent hasnt been fighting quite frequently. True? Yes.
2 . The Days of Chris Chronis and the tennis centre are over. True? Yes.
3 . Tarik Solak is the best promoter in Australia. True? Yes.
4 . Tarik's consistant main event card fighter is Gurkan Ozkan. True? Yes.
5 . Where has Stan been in Australia Kickboxing? Overseas.
6 . Have we seen alot of Stan? NO.
7 . Tarik and Gurkan Ozkan have made the sport ALOT MORE electryifng. I cant name a fighter who can bring all the crowd in a chant in every fight they have! Only Stan could do it, now Gurkan has the fanbase!
Hence, Stan wants the thrown back and a piece of the cake! And he has every reason to be hanging!!!!!!!!
Janer, no offence, but that is absolutely ridiculous. In fact it is beyond ridiculous.
Please mate, we all like Gurkan, but according to you absolutely everything in the kickboxing world revolves around him. Not even close. Like I said mate, we like Gurkan but don't make things up.
Stan's motivation to come back? Six figures dude. Not who makes the crowd chant.
The notion he would "chase" Gurkan Ozkan is so ridiculous I can't believe I'm discussing it.
You think the guy who drew record crowds in Australia is so insecure he even thinks about, let alone cares, that some guy drew 2000 people to the Crown Showroom, and that is what motivates him to train? Please.
I appreciate that you are a big fan or friend of Gurkan, but don't make things up.

14-11-2002, 08:02 PM
its a pretty silly fight, but gurkn ozkan has got punches chance, and stan IS and DOES want the attention he used to get back in the 90's, it will draw a big crowd and i do agree that they are both hanging for the show, such a big venue and a huge crowd where 2 of the best in there divisions in australia will go for it, tarik had done well, gurkan will win if he goes wild if stan forgets his legs at home, stan is very technical and if he uses his brain it should be a walk in mikinos
Yep, I am telling you he doesn't miss it Janer.
Don't think that means he won't be serious on fight night though.

The fights are still supposed to be going forward on the 17th of feb according to Tarik's announcement and the amusing war of words that went on between Stan and Gurkan, at last nights show at the Melb town Hall. I have no idea when the tickets will go on sale though, my guess is very soon. I believe Stan will simply too good for Ozkan, he is technically superior in both hands and feet to the brawling Ozkan and has roughly the same power in his hands and twice that of Ozkan in the leg department. My money is Stan, but you never know Ozkan still has a punchers chance and is improving.

janer, let me get this straight. You said something non-positive about Ozkan? Are you feeling OK? lol!
JANER
27-11-2002, 08:44 PM
Lol! I gotta give crap where crap is due! Gurkan cant act! Gurks if you see this dont crack it!! haha kidding
Well what happened is the usuall build up of a fight. They had a promotional tape which was projected on a cinema screen which had an interview of both Stan and Gurkan. Stan was talking about how much he had done for KB and Gurkan (who was wearing the fake gold FUBU chain lol and black sunnys') who disrespecting Stan. Then it continued in the ring where Stan said he respects Gurks and then Gurks replies you havnt fought anyone decent (well along those lines! dont quote me) then they try to get into a hussle then stan jumps out of the ring then walks to the changing rooms and Gurkan mouths him off with adhock insults about Stan and his career.
Has Stan ever bagged a fighter in the public eye? Even if stan thinks he is a World Champion K1 Super Star and/or a Mega Movie star, he always bows down to those who helped and supported him along the way...
The last thing Stan said before he walked out and wanted us to think after he had the fight was:
"What did you think was going to happen?"
Now that sent a chill down my spine!
John K
27-11-2002, 09:52 PM
Yeah that was crazy, Gurkan said something about Stan not fighting much for the last few years much and not fighting a decent guy in that time (but I could have sworn Stan slapped Peter Graham around who stopped Gurkan) and that he had been busting his ass while Stan was taking it easy and would KO Stan and blah blah blah. It was nonsensical from Gurkan, but good for promotion I guess. True Janer, Stan's last line was delivered beautifully. "When this is all over, I'm going to ask you: What did you expect?" Safe to say Stan won everyone's heart with his speech before that.
It's all promotion. Tarik tells Gurkan what to say to go with the main theme "no respect' title given to the show. Tarik probably tried to tell stan to do the same but stan didn't want much of that. THey were meant to push and shove and have the body buidlers who were in centre ring for no other purpose to push them apart.
I thought the commercial was one of the funniest I have seen in a long time. I was laughing all the way through it.
Tarik says to Gurkan, "make some disturbance and get the crowd going a bit. A few insults to stan will get the fans excited. 12000 tickets to sell remember." I thought there was gonna be a dummy punch in there, but Stan probably didn't want to play with that.

Hehe Janer, too funny. Though, you're not being far to Gurkan. Don't forget his at a dissadvantage here, Stan has a feature film under his belt and is far more experienced.
Hey, even when Alexio was calling Stan a bum, I didn't see Stan say anything bad.
But that seemed like a real grudge thing happening.
I just can't see Gurkan meaning what he said. Between us here, I'm sure it's just show business.
Which I think is a good thing for bringing in new people and I'm enjoying it.
Felix (one of my favourite Ax members) said it beautifully a little while back. I don't remember how it got started or the exact subject, but basically Felix said it was such a shame that so many of the best K-1 Stars are just so dull when it comes to using the media to it's full potential. Then he pointed out the current situation in the world GP. Look how many brilliant fighters there are, but who's got 90% of the spotlight shining on them. I know this probably goes against all ethics many of you were taught by your martial arts disciplines, but I honestly don't think it hurts the sport. For every dissrespectful fighter on telly, I promise there will be one the exact opposite and a perfect role-model.
Bob Sapp knows how to play up for the media, and they're just soaking him up.
Both Stan and Gurkan are very charismatic guys. You sense something special about them even the first time you see them walk into the ring. My young daughter knew Ozkan was a Star fighter when she first saw him enter the ring at her very first Kickboxing show. She didn't know any of the other fighters though, many of whom she'd seen just as many times on Fox.
Most people consider Stan a kickboxing Statesman, so it would be inappropriate for him to take on the bad guy role. So it's up to Gurkan to be the disrespectful young whipper snapper this time to get the full theatrics happening.
It's all good.

Have to agree with you - it is too obvious - bringing on the bodyguards - what a load of ****! - the words spoken were not presented with any hate or anger, it as if they were rehearsing the damn thing - it makes me wonder if the fight has already been rehearsed, ie outcome, controversial, draw or whatever, I dont think there was anyone near us who wasn't pissing themselves laughing during the whole act.
For the record, Stan fought Graham apporx 1.5 plus years ago and played with him, Stan gave him a solid kick in the second which buckled Graham, but Stan let him go, could have easily finished him off, I suppose Stan knew he was a promising up and comer and didn,t want to destroy him early.
Viewing this fight, if Stan actually enters the ring next year with ferocity and a determined die hard attitude, Ozkan will be wiped out within 2 rounds, if you're a punter I will put money on first round by either punch, but definetly legs. This wont happen though as the thing looks more and more contrived as time goes by.

28-11-2002, 05:51 PM
I just think both the guys are trying to add that little something extra to make the crowd bigger. I really think it will help fill such a big venue. Consider how scary it would be for the promoter guys.
I'm sure the arena is outrageously expensive. And if we only got 3 or 4 thousand people it would be probably run at a sever loss after paying for purses, venue, security, insurances etc.
So I think Stan and Gurkan are just being good blokes and trying to secure more bums for the guy taking the risks.
Krama, you're right about the fight with Peter Graham. I also wondered why Stan layed off with those stinging whipping kicks to the thigh. I ended up thinking it might be Stan's way of giving more to the fans. Guys, I imagine a lot of Stan's fans may not have been to a kickboxing show since the last time he was fghting, and many would probably be dissapointed paying for their tickets to see two rounds of low-kick action . I'm sure like me they'll be hoping to see Stan do the things his famous for. Which is pretty much everything. He was such a coplete fighter that was good at everything,.
I don't think for a moment that we'll see anything other than a full on war between these two. I'm sure they're both too proud to give us anything less.

Well spoken Paul & the rest of you guys,
It is all about business,I have never underestimated Gurkan he has done alot for the sport over the years and has proved a lot of critics wrong....even myself as I have said in the past he has earned my RESPECT as a fighter and I can only wish him the very best on the night...
With Stan The Man well he has done more for the sport in Australia than any other fighter (NO DISRESPECT TO GURKAN)
He has put the sport on the map World wide, he has helped alot of fighters and people like myself believe in themselves in giving me the self confidence I have needed he is a household name he gave me the opportunity to promote him in which it was a honor and a pleasure to promote..I have been overseas with Stan & Gurkan and they have been respectable gentleman ....and both great ambassodors for Australia...I have judged fights of theirs for both fighters over the years which have been
all exciting fights......
Stan The Man has always been loyal to his fans and people who have kept in touch with him over the years, I am very happy to see him back into the ring and as a promoter I wish I was promoting the fight for it has to be the best business fight to promote in years ..THE BEST TURKS VS THE BEST GREEKS with Baris Nezif Vs Zambidis 2 you could not get better than that.. All the best to both fighters Stan & Gurkan...all I know is that I am a huge fan and supporter of Stan and I wish him the very best WELCOME BACK STAN I will be there to support you & Gurkan for he also has earned my respect as a fighter....May the Best Man Win...Great Promo Tape Tarik showed on the night..All the best Tarik for your show....

Mr Deanspartan, I've relayed your opinion of the Ozkan v's stan and the Baris v's Zambidis.............
1st- After asking around it seems like the fighter with the worst knees in the buisness (Ozkan), is matched up with the fighter with one of the best leg kicks in the buisness (Stan), I think your kidding yourself if you think that Stan will enter the ring under prepared, you can can't compare the amount and quality of ring time spent by Stan.
End of the day the win will go to the best fighter on the night.
I think Gerkan will become a pickle on the night.
2nd- As for Baris, word is that he's no match for Jenk Behic let alone Zambidis, word around the campfire also go's like this...... on a recent sparring session at the Ultimate stable in the west, baris couldn't even cut it with Evan Themelakis, I don't know how you think Baris is going to survive, I hope I'm wrong, the last thing you want is to see any fighter get hurt but Jenk recent attempt to knock him of his block wasn't sucessfull, if you watch the fight closely you'll see that Zambidis was showing Jenk alot of respect and wasn't going to just rush in. I think Zambidis at that weight division is the 'MAN'.

i must agree with you there ponyman.
stan fights with honour and i don't thnik he will let gurkan beat him.
and for baris i reackon maybe 2-3rd, thats all baris will last against mike. baris got beaten quite convincely against alexy. so you can imagine what mike will do to him.
before i went to lucys show i was expecting big things from baris, after reading on this forum about how good he was. but what i saw was totaly diffrent, i mean the guy couldn't put a dent in a rice pudding. he had no power and no stamina. i was very dissaponited to see that, after reading everyones post. i reackon it will be any early night. for those to, with mike comming up on top.

Ponyman, you obviously dont know nothing about kickboxing if you had to find out from someone else that gurkans is poor with his knees.
"you can can't compare the amount and quality of ring time spent by Stan" FACT: Gurkan has had as many fights as stan, if not more!
As for Baris, did you see the fight he first had with Zambidis or dont you know about that? You cant compare Baris with Jenk as jenk got brutally bashed against Zam in the first fight and got hammered the second time round even though zam was taking it a little bit easy. You obviously have never seen baris fight before and for you to say he cant punch and has no stamina, it absolutely ridciculous. Where have you been man?
Pete M, As for the Alexie fight, I got no idea why Baris didnt try. Its got me puzzled as to why he didnt fire up!
And the word is that your the most un-informed poster ever on sportzblitz. So welcome pony boy!

Hey Janer, I dont argue the fact that Gurkan may have had more fights that Stan "which I doubt", end of the day it don't matter how many fight you have, it's the opponents you compete against, again I'm not saying that Gurkan just fights BUMS, he has also fought some big names in his past but since your such an expert, do the groundwork and see............
As for not knowing any thing about kickboxing, I hardly consider myself an expert but I know when a fighter is completely out of his league(baris), Zam made an example of him, toyed with.
Yes I did see that fight and so did alot of other fighters who could see beyond the hype of 'Zam the man', they also agreed that Zam carried Baris for the entire fight..........
You sound like a loyal follower of the game, I respect that but you have to realise that the work load that jenk put out against Zambidis, I thought it was an incredible performance and going by the crowds reaction they thought so to.......
I may not know much but last I heard (2 weeks ago), Baris was being trained by Pat Cristofy(wrong spelling), is there any thruth to that Mr Janer.......
Pat has been training Baris for a while.

Pat had trained Baris even at the time of his fight with Duett.
It's been quite a while now.
K unem, Just taking a guess, but probably around $50 for a general entry.

Pete,
I agree with you in general about the quality,
though I think 2003 is going to be different.
We saw some good shows from Sydney in 2002. I thought the KB4 was an awesome show, and the NSW K1 was excellent as well. I haven't seen the latest one, but the card had a few quality fighters.
I imagine Lucy's success this year is going to lead to more KB4 Pro events, which are pretty good value. Understandably, we all like to see live the stars that get a lot of television airtime. Hopefully, NSW and Kickboxing in general may get more television time this next coming year.

MR PonyBOY, you "HEAR" alot of things from many people. How about go and watch a fight and derive your own arguments. The information you hold is old and you are totaly mis-informed.

But It won't be long I think till you do.
We just need Tarik to get involved with more NSW kickboxing.

true paul c
the nsw boxing legistlation
is to tight ass
and the dinasours who run it need to be replaced
once we get new people in and the system is updated it will be better for everyone.
i mean i carn't fight full thai rules here
but i can fly an hour north and south (qld, vic) and i can do it.
to me that doesn't make sense.
They can't even fight a normal kickboxing fight and have to wear shin pads.

Hi Pete,
Keep your eyes on the mainevent website
Should be up soon if it's going to be on.
An event off this size I imagine will have a lot of people whom are hoping to be able to tune in live.
Nothing beats being there live guys, I hope all of you in Melbourne will go. Hehe, I'm not on Tarik's payroll or anything, but just believe that events with this much production cost deserve to be supported.
www.mainevent.com.au
At the moment they are only advertising events up till Feb 7th.

The TV ISN'T confirmed yet so settle down boys... my advice is grab a ticket cos this one's going to go off! Nothing like being there!
As for both guys, both are looking in awesome shape. IK did a photo shoot with Stan a few days ago and wow, does he look in top shape! The guy is ripped up like he used to be a few years ago and is getting hyped about this fight... some of the Stan of old is really coming out of him this time, which is great to see. Stan is usually such a gentleman, but I get the feeling that he wants to put a HURTING on Gurkan on February 17. This feud is certainly getting more personal by the day.
Meanwhile, Gurkan is looking buffed and ripped once again and says that he is training like a demon and feeling like one too. He has just one aim on the night... forget going the distance with the great Stan "The Man"... forget putting up a great fight for the fans... Gurkan just wants to be the first man to knock Stan the **** out on Australian soil!!
It's gonna be huge!

But nothing up there yet.
