Tarik Solak secured a worldwide coup recently when K-1 founder Master Ishii granted Solak the exclusive rights to stage the world's first ever K-1 U-78: a light heavyweight K-1 tourney. Solak will stage the tournament in Melbourne next February (tentatively scheduled for the Vodafone Arena) and has promised to make the event an invitational for the best eight light heavyweights on the planet. "The Supreme Fighting Machine" Gurkan Ozkan, living legend Ramon Dekker, Stanley "Knife" Nandex and Trevor "Curtly" Ambrose comprise four fighters already confirmed for the show.

In the words of KURT ANGLE... "Oh, it's true"

STAN will also be fighting a superbout on the card.

Mike S,

Has Ian Jacobs been invited?

Surely the prize money will lure him back.

If Gurkan is in, surely Ian would be too (considering he beat Gurkan) and he is a drawcard.

A tournament with names like that and Stan Longinides making a return in the main bout. About time we had a super show like that. Vodafone Arena is a smart choice considering that. Schiavello, is this definite? Stan's site said it's ALMOST certain.

Dekker looked heavy in one of his last fights which I saw which was at middleweight. If he is to come back, I would like to see him at 70kgs in K1 Max.

Trever Ambrose has confirmed on the Ax board.

He mentioned a date of Feb 17th.

Sounds like this is shaping up to be the biggest we've seen in quite a while.

It would be good if someone can tell us what Ian Jacobs plans are.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Also, does anyone know if John Hallford has any plans to be in this K1 U78?

Tarik said that it was going to be his 10th year anniversary for promoting and was going to do something huge. If it all goes to plan, there will be Ozkan, Ambrose, Dekker, Gibson and Stan the Man in a superfight. Mid February is usually the time for the k-1 oceania, so my question is what has happened to that? Are they able to do it a few months later, as the winner has to go to Japan.

If we don't know what happened, we might have to start some rumours:)

Hi guys

The K-1 Oceania will definitely go ahead, but the date is yet to be confirmed... it is a major part of the world K-1 circuit as the Oceania now has the reputation of producing the strongest regional K-1 champion on the planet - MARK HUNT x 2, ADAM WATT x 1. The winner goes to one of the world legs, and this year it was Las Vegas in August, so there is plenty of time.
Already qualified for the Oceania are: Cedric Kongaika, Mitch O'Hello, Auckland Aumitagi... they will be joined by the winner of the K-1 New Zealand next week... and several more. It will be good to see some new faces in the Oceania next year.

The event on February 17 will be huge. Stan is set to fight Espidito from Brazil - aka The Black Panther - you may remember this bloke fought Jerome LeBanner on a Don King card some years ago. Should be a solid fight.

The main bulk of the card is of course the world's first ever K-1 u-78: Ozkan, Dekker, Ambrose, Nandex and negotiations still underway with Manson Gibson and Ian Jacobs. Ian told me on the weekend that he has retired, but Tarik is still in talks with the Great One (all bow). The potential match ups here are all blockbusters... imagine Ozkan vs Ambrose II... or Dekker vs Ozkan - who would ever have thought of that!! Then you have Stanley Nandex and the best roundkicks going round!

Anyways, plenty to look forward to as always. Keep you posted.
:)
