Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on this. I'm talking about fighters of the Australian elite (not JWP he's world class). Guys like F-16, Soren (although he's getting up there too), Preacher etc. Now I've that Hallford won't fight for less than $5000, but $5000 is not a huge amount, how many times a year does the fighter have to fight to make a decent living then? Hallford runs his own gym so I guess that's his major revenue, but what about fighters that don't own gyms, how do they make the bulk of their money considering they don't get paid very highly at all for fights themselves? Is it endorsements, sponsors? Someone enlighten me please!
Cheers!

Let's just say if your hoping to make a decent living being a fighter, the odd's are definately against you. Out of the hundreds of OZ fighters, only a handful make reasonable money. Most fighters work standard day jobs, just like everybody else. You would have to be a popular, absolute gun fighter with a bit of luck on the side. Also alot of fighters have sponsors but still have to work to make ends meet.

personal training, security work or a profession/trade if they aren't full time fighters.
Many have part time jobs but generally personal training and security are the main two I'd say.
The higher profile guys might be sponsored and do endorsements too, all helping to make a crust between fights.

believe you me kostet, john halfords main revenue certainly is not his gym. john own one of the ten top dominos pizza shops that makes him a tonne more bling than his gym.
yes you are right though voice personal training and security would probably be the dominant roles a fighter will pursue to make a crust, except for us intelligent few that have a degree of course hehehe!

Sniper, I don't know if this question is too personal or not, if it is just ignore it, but I was wondering... Is teaching a passion of yours? If so, if you had the opportunity to teach high-school English full-time for decent money, would you take it and how would it affect your career as a pro fighter?

lets just say, voice spends a lot of time dressed up in female clothing on kings cross evry night!!!
supermario, yes teaching is a definite passion of mine. i teach high school physical education, mathematics and chemistry tho. not english. i can speak and teach maori as well which is the indigenous language of nz. in australia i do not have the time to teach full time so i just do the odd relief day which of course has no specialist area. no question is too personal for me mate so fire away!!!

Cool, thanks for that Sniper. So maths and chemistry... you're a smart boy. I C'ed my way through those two subjects in high-school, so I could've used your help as a tutor... although I probably would've just bugged you for training tips the whole time, hehe.

trust me supermario, there are a lot of teachers out there that fall way below parr when it comes to academic credibility. i did ok in school but my point is, is that you dont need to be a straight A student to pursue a teaching career.
i think i do spend most of my time talking to students about training and fighting anyway so you would be no different hehehe!
