Great lineup......

But what is the set weight for this tournament????
There has to be a big weight difference between F16 and Alex Daly.

Simply too hard to predict the winner...esp in an 8 man.

Top 4
Preacher ( Has previuosly won the "battleground" 8 man )
Soren ( Same as Preacher, former winner of the "Supa 8" )
Pixie ( Would have made the final against Soren if it wasn't for a cut )
Elson ( Going on past form,he should do well... esp with his knees )

The whole field is quality..... F16 might be the dark horse along with Alex Daly.

What are the rules set for this show??
Full thai or MAX...
if thai, will be a **** up between Wazza/Preacher
if MAX I would lean towards Pixie/Soren JMO

Then again you cant rule out the underdog i.e
Andy Souwer. Oops I meant Keogh

thnx al.

I believe the prize money is along the lines of $1500 for the qtrs $3000 for the semis 6000 for the finalist and 10000 for the winner although I may have that wrong..
Rules are Mod Thai for the qtrs and semis and full thai for the final...
And I believe all bouts are 3x3 inlcuding the final.

End of the day, Time will Tell. Im Tipping me so thats about all thats matters from my end. Sorren will be a huge threat of this i am certain.
As far as the draw goes, it isnt quite set yet. Though Pool A and Pool B will be in effect with Fighters from A fighting fighters from B first fight. So Pool A fighters will have 2 fighters of either side of the competition.
I do have an idea of who is in what pool, though it is not quite certain.
Problem with these comps is anything can happen. Can beat someone and be too injured to continue.
I Think will be the best Supa 8 ever seen in Australia, with the massave amount of talent in it.

SO is the eliminator Full Thai all fights (similar to S1) or just the final

"Yours in Bushido"

Preacher
29-08-2005, 10:55 PM
Yes just the final is under full Thai. This is to stop ease the risk of a fighter being cut and unable to continue through the comp even though they may have won that round.
The fights are 3 by 3 mins with the final allowing 2 extention rounds in the event of a draw.

Okay I've only been to Kickboxing shows in Sydney and seen Preacher vs Foley(my favorite Kickboxer) F16 vs White both are good fighters and both did well under Kickboxing rules.

Preacher is bloody good. F16 powerful little guy. But his showing at Taricks last show was not the same fighter I saw versus White.

My money is on Preacher vs Soren of course only seen Soren on FOX Sports to me they both sort of fight similar. My opinion Preacher to win.

I almost got to see Ngakau Spain vs Headhunter but was looking for the bloody ladies room. When I got back my boyfriend told me the details. He said Ngakau has a set of good hands but couldn't adopt well under Kickboxing rules looked frustrated.

HAMMER - I saw you and Michael there whats your opinion about Ngakau does he deserve to be in the line up after losing to Headhunter?

Virtually an unknown, sure there were other fighters that should've been in the line up who are at least well known fighters. Too bad no Sydney boys to compete in this tourney.

I like Warren as a fighter....but with the lengthy lay off and with 2 previous winners of the 8 man ( Preacher & Soren ) along with Pixie in the mix,he will find it hard to win it.

Good call Action... I thought you were being a bit generous..
I was gonna suggest a pool of sorts but a first in best dressed winner takes all i.e $100 on a fighter max 8 bets 1 bet per fight winner takes all...
Although i am nit entirely sure how it would work if not all 8 fighters were backed and one of the unbacked fighters won.. Maybe a jackpot pool for the next time... or the closest... i.e. runner up...
Might be a plan for next time..

Guys, I am pumped for this event.

You can try but is very hard to deny the fact that Soren is in great form as of late.

Preacher has taken out an 8 man before as has Soren.

Pixie is always tough.

Keogh knows what it is like to be in an 8 man having faced Dawson for a loss a few years back, and has looked quite good against Shaggy.

Spain has recently competed in MMA I believe and fought around 80 kg V Headhunter for a L in KB rules, he will be a big boy.

Alex is a guy with quite a bit of experience, and fights overseas on a regular basis.

F-16 is a danger and an underdog, a win V Soren etc would not surprise me.

Elson has looked good recently and has the reputation. Whether or not he could mix it with Pixie, Soren and Preacher I am unsure. He too has the experience of being in an 8 man.

At first thought I was leaning toward Elson based on the initial size disparity, but more thinking has reminded me that in these forms of competition, injuries are more prevalent thus anything can happen.

I would expect Soren to start off quite slow as would Elson, and perhaps limit their injuries in their first fight, but if fighting Preacher or Pixie, this would be very hard to avoid.

Pixie I feel would come forward from the get go, which may or may not be his biggest down fall.

F-16 and Keogh I am thinking would be too small for this particular tournie.

Preacher I would rate above Alex, and would have to say that Spain won't make the final due to fighting in different tules and weights recently.

No offence to anyone, but pending bracket announcement, Elson, Soren or Preacher (as many others feel) will likely take it out.

Full Thai will be great for the final, and the winner I would like to see fight Choppa Full Thai some time soon.

Thanks

SPADA

Good post Glass Jaw........

It would be good if the winner of the 8 man got the opportunity on an up coming EVO promo,to fight a decent european fighter.

I know Nugget and the guys support the WMC,so why not get the Intercontinental champion of that weight division, who happens to be Chris Van Venrooji from Holland.

We have at least 4 or 5 guys who would give most of the europeans a run for their money.
If opportunities and invites are limited to fight over there..... then bring a couple to us to get the exposure.

Its time to match these guys and see where we are at

Yeah there is just over one week to go and i can't wait for this night to come. I have my ring side ticket in my hot little hand! My predictions are though i don't know the pools yet:

Bruce will win and win well. Everyone has been saying Soren is the man to beat, He has been impressive to say the least over the past 18 months, but Bruce has his measure and if they meet in the final Bruce will win. I've seen Soren fight 5 times this year and nobody has rushed him, Credit to him and Nugget he's a great fighter.
I think Warren Elson is a big danger, having only seen tapes of him he has big knees but his hands are his weak point, i saying that he'll go well. Andrew Keogh is just tough as tough can be, that man never stops, a true warrior. Shannon Forrester well he can do anything if he is on. Pixie Burton is in fine form the last time i saw him fight at Explosion on the Gold Coast when he punished Ashley White, he will surprise. I've only seen Alex Daley once when he fought Bruce but you never know, and Ngakau i'm unaware of, this will be the best ever Evolution i've been to, i've been to every one. I think the biggest War will be Aaron Leigh and Rung Chai, can't wait for that! Dane NTG is fighting Chris Petrie from K6 Noosa. Both are excellent fighters and this rematch will be differnet from their last fight a year ago. Best of luck to everybody.

Go Bruce.

Muay Thai in Queensland is growing from so fast, if you go to promotions such as Evolution, Explosions you can just see. And have Gym's such as K6, NTG, Stikeforce, Sunshine Coast Thai Boxing, Boonchu, Five Rings and up and coming gym's such as Mad X.
The sport is in good hands.

i think the draw will be a big determining factor.

we should wait til it's released to see what every fighters chances will be then. obviously there are favourites who could take out the tournament but the draw as well as injuries will be a big factor.

once the draw is released i'll state my pick.

"A man can't stand, he can't fight!"

i think if bruce is gonna stand a chance against jwp he has to win this. so in saying that my pick is bruce.

bruce is no doubt one of the favourites and will definitely want to win this tournament to help his cause for his fight with jwp. but these tourneys are so unpredictable. i still remember the first super 8 how pixie got cut late in the 3rd round of his semi final match and couldn't take his deserved spot in the final against soren.

3. Pixie
4. Elson

7. Spain
8. ? (Dally's replacement)

I really think that Soren has improved more than Preacher has since their last matchup, so I'm putting him first (yes, I also think he would go better against JWP than Preacher too), but it would be close.

Shaggy fights at middleweight, ie, 72kg/160lbs, so he is just over the limit. I didn't know Kurt Finlayson had retired, that's too bad. Does anybody know whom he fought last and where? He went eerily similar to the preacher in his world title bids; first a draw and then a loss in the rematch for a vacant WMC title, against a thai.

one of the best fight cards ive seen. Props have to go to Nugget and Josh Sexton who put together these amazing shows. My bet for the night is Soren - coming of his last few fights he looks really good and i think after his loss to Bruce before he will have learnt heaps more, however Bruce is also looking great for this fight night and always comes in super fit and with a game plan - to me Bruce is one of the smartest fighters ive seen, eg he has the ability to evaluate a loss and take from it what he needs and then use that to improve himself eg Baris Nezif.

photos of the weigh in can also be viewed on ax...i would put the link here but i dunno how to do it

now seeing the lineup my pick is
pixie vs preacher in semis with pixie getting through
soren vs elson in the other semi with soren getting through

and in the final i'm predicting that pixie will get the nod against soren after he missed out on the opportunity 2 years ago when he got cut in the semi's.

I am picking an upset for F16 vs Waza - I reckon F16 might do the job! (yeah its a bold call)

And Soren to win overall against Pixie in final. But I'd love to see Soren vs Preacher.

This was my first chance to see live fight night in QLD, and all i can say is OUTSTANDING..........

The fights went off as did the crowd, and the main event, WOW, both fighters gave there all and it was great to see the true sportsman ship of some awesome superstars.

JWP Vs Preacher, it was interesting to watch JWP during the main event, anticipation for this fight will be huge. Preacher coming of a loss and JWP fighting on home soil, i'm affraid i'm still Going for the Preacher, BUT who knows..

What a night of action.........

Firstly..... congrats Action Jackson, you called it and Wazza steamrolled his way to victory.Email me your details so i can send you the " Lobsters "

Ghot ( Nuggets ) vs Chris Petrie ( K6 Noosa )

This was a good fight, but I thought Chris had done enough to
take the title.Ghot came after him in the last round or so...... but Chris can feel abit unlucky not to be given the decision.

Pixie vs Keogh

Keogh started this fight well drilling good combos into Pixie.Pixie tried to get going in the 2nd round but didn't seem to be himself and
Keogh ran away with the fight. It was a huge upset, but thats what makes the 8 man so unpredictable.

Preacher vs Clayton Collier

Full credit to Clayton for taking this fight on very short notice.Hadn't trained for it but put in a real gutsy performance.
He would have to have one of the hardest chins around, cause as much as the Preacher tried to end his night,Clayton refused to go down and took the Preacher the distance.

Soren vs Ngakau Spain

The crowd favourite up against the wild card.Ngakau started the fight well taunting Soren and landed some nice combos.About half way through the round,Soren bundled Ngakau up against the ropes and drilled a huge body shot in,and down went Ngakau. He stayed down for the full 10 secs and Soren easily proceeded to the semi final.

Warren Elson vs F16

The 1st thing that stood out in this fight, was the massive height and reach advantage Warren had over F16.From the start.... Warren tried to pull F16 head into his knees.F16 took a trip to the canvas and took a 8 count. From then on... F16 tried to make up for it... but Warren had his measure and played out the rounds for a good win on points.

SEMI FINALS

Preacher vs Keogh

Keogh was pumped after his shock win against Pixie, but had ran into
a barrage of punches and knees from the Preacher. The Preacher wanted
an early finish and delivered it via a vicious knee.KO win to the Preacher.

Soren vs Warren Elson

This was a great fight. They both have similar builds so Warren wouldn't have it all his own way this time.Warren fought smart but Soren stayed with him for most of the fight. Both guys traded shots
and Warren was strong in the grapple just did enough to take it on points.

Semi Main Event

TS2 vs Rungchai

This was a rematch as Rungchai had beaten TS2 on earlier EVO show.
As expected, the fight started slowly as the boys found their range.
They were both fighting fairly evenly, before Rungchai landed an elbow to the forehead of TS2 causing some blood to flow. After a quick look by the doc, they were at it again. In the 2nd round TS2 tried to land some elbows of his own but Rungchai wouldn't leave his cut alone and the doc once again took a look.TS2 was allowed to go on.Not long into the 3rd round Rungchai hit him with another elbow that split him wide open.
Although not that hurt by it,the ref called it off as the blood couldn't be stopped.

MAIN EVENT SUPA 8 Final

Preacher vs Warren Elson

Fight of the night I believe. The crowd was pumped for this fight
and both Preacher and Warren didn't dissapoint.
A 1st round knockdown to the Preacher and he went close to putting Warren away before the bell rang to finish the round.
Round 2 began with both guys throwing plenty at each.Very close round, but for me Warren just took it.3rd round..... Warren's grapple
and knees are proving abit much for the Preacher as he appeared to
be tiring.Warren was finishing very strong and both guys faces showed
that they had been in a war.Preacher was also cut near his eye and saw out the final secs of the 3rd round.

Extension round
This is where Warren really took control.Preacher tried to take it....but Warren powered through his attacks and again drilled the knees. This was a close fight.... but Warren Elson did enough and rightfully took the title.

Fantastic night and a big thanx to Nugget and Josh Sexton for again putting on such a quality show.
To think we got to see Warren vs Soren.... Warren vs Preacher...
Warren vs F16 in one night says it all.

You guys in W.A make sure you get to the Boom Boom vs Elson fight cause it should be a ripper.
Warren appears to be back to his best and he beat 3 " Quality " fighters last night..... so Boom Boom you should be in for a treat.

Lastly...... thanx to all the sportzblitz people I met up with.

Two words

FARKN AWESOME [u]

Guys, this was just an unbelieveable event.

Fortunate enuf to travel up from Melbourne for this, sat next to a very vocal "Bundy Spada", mate thanks for the night....

I have never been in a place that pumped so much...it went off IMHO even more than No Respect with the "perocial" crowds in Melbourne..the place was tight yet was seriously oging off.

The fighters freely walked amongst the fans before hand and afterwards and the atmosphere even before the show had started was electric...

Agree with Spada (I had ti we sat together...lol) with the comments on the fights, although he was VERY VOCAL for Preacher in the final....he was looking after his "lobsters" Action....

I thought Preacher before the final with Wazza, Wazza had to earn bith wins to get there Preacher just looked the fresher and sharper....but Wazza, the true champ just kept going..

Another highlight were Rung Chai's jumping elbows that diced TS2.....oyu could see the absolute frustration in TS2 face as he went to the corner with JWP to see the Doc....he was lookign sharp but was just cut way to badly to continue..I sensed JWP was turning a blind eye to the cut lettign the fight continue (thanks J Dubya)..but in the end it had to be stopped.

Al in all an AWESOME night, got to catch up woth J Dubya at last, Mark Pease, Pixie, TS2 back stage after the fights...the place was still pumping then..

Anyway, I'm back there again now that I've had the taste.....Evo 6....bring it on..

Oh, and when it's on Fox and out on DVD...WATCH IT...

sorry about the underline and itallics......LMAO

Just like to say thanks for all the supporters there last night supporting Wazza at the beginning there were a couple of tables supporting wazza but by the end i think nearly the whole place was chanting his name. Spoke to Wazza this morning the boy is a bit sore but $10,000 richer he will rest a few days this week and start picking it up again at the end of the week ready for Boom Boom in two weeks. I will say doing Wazza's corner in the absence of Joe Hilton i was pumped all night it was one of the best shows i have been to in quite a while great stuff Nug & Josh.
Also the two most outsatanding fighters other than big old dog Wazza was Soren & Bruce, i think after that fight Soren showed he really is at a world standard and i think he will be after wazza for a rematch in the near future Soren great fight, Bruce i must say mate you also are a great warrior going 4 rounds and dropping wazza just shows you are one tough bastard. great stuff boys i love this ****

Guys, my take on the event was 10/10 probably the best evo show so
far. Looks like my earlier prediction was correct 4 a Preacher/Wazza
finale and it did not dissappoint, one of the fights of the year.
Big wraps for Andrew ko for his 1st rnd qualifer against a somewhat
at times tired looking Pixie but met his match against a fired up
and aggresive Preacher.
Feel for one of my faves F-16 taking on the biggest boy of the night
Wazza. He was on the wrong end of Elsons knee strikes for much of the
match resulting in an 8-count but showed true grit to remain there
for the duration.
Ghot V Petrie was a great bout with i think most of the crowd agreeing that Petrie was a little hard done by.[Future rematch ?]

I was surrounded by Preacher followers all night and it was quite funny to hear them and their predictions on the Bruce v JWP saga.
A few of you guys would make great careers on a comedy stage.
Speaking to Wayne during and after the show and asked him if he had done his homework on Bruce. Would love to let you guys in on his little secret but i just cannot kiss and tell.
Anyways, to ALL the fights, xcellent, to ALL the fighters congrats.
Well done Josh and Nugget.
