all in all it was a good night of fighting... the beginners all fought very well... only a few hickups... one of which disappointed us greatly... Amy (mei hua) had to fight under kickboxing rules... the other party didn't think to mention this until we were in the ring... as Amy was considerably taller and heavier than her opponent, she didn't feel confident to fight under Mod Thai rules but only chose tell us that in the ring after Amy's finished her Wai Kru... the girl was gonna jump out of the ring if we didnt fight KB rules. all in all it was ****e for us, as we'd spent the last 3 weeks training Amy to grapple her way to a win. Amy got quite annoyed with all this and proceeded to pole-axe her under KB rules... we were very disappointed with this kind of thing but what can ya do huh.
Corey Vs Chickonoi was by far the fight of the night, with the two of them fighting to an incredible Thai rhythm which progressively got fired up into a full thai war. Chicknoi loving the elbows let them fly early by round 2 corey had a deep cup about an inch long above his right eye. i worked on it frantically in the break and got it to stop bleeding long enough to get half a tub of vas in there.Corey out-grappled Chicknoi landing hard knees and a couple of elbows of his own... it was a good war for Corey and certainly showed that he can keep cool and calm and go on to win a tough fight...
Matty Reid Vs Aaron Sityodtong was another war with some more great elbow action they were about even by mid way through the 2nd but then Matty stepped up the pace and landed more. Matty's fight was fuelled by the support of a dedicated local crowd that cheered him on to his win. Aaron felt the pressure of fighting at that higher weight and expressed to me afterwards that he'll avoid fight over 79kg as it takes too much of a toll. fair enough... Aaron is an exceptionally tough boy and held his end of the fight up right through to the last bell.
a great night all round and Tony is now totally keen to continue promoting shows in Country Vic...
Thanks to all who supported the show and to Tony for bringing us all up to fight.
