Need help scoring a fight

On the weekend my wife fought here in Australia. She fought a very good fight and won every round. When the judges announced the decision they called a draw making us pretty upset so I went around and asked each judge who scored what. One judge said to Angie, another said to Angie then one called it a draw. The one that called it a draw said ask Stephen Fox if you have a problem with it so this is where it gets interesting.

First excuse: Fox said there was 5 judges so I didn't see the other score cards.

Second excuse: he said that one of the judges had called it to Angie but marked the card wrong and that Angie should have really have won the fight.

Third excuse: We asked to get the decision changed and announced on the ring but Stephen said he already talked to our opponents trainer and asked he he could change the decision but the trainer said no so it wouldn't be fair on them if he did that.

Fourth excuse: the head judge on the night said he had all three cards and didn't know what to do, he asked Stephen saying I have one card here a draw, the judge then told me that because of the crowd noise all Stephen heard was a draw and that's what they told the announcer?

Fifth excuse: after the show was finished Stephen said he would do everything in his power to get the decision over ruled. By this stage I told him it was too late and it didn't matter anymore, soon as the crowd leave the venue no body remembers or cares so the damage was done.

So what do you think should happen when two judges give you a win and one a draw?

Hey Wayne,
RE; Third excuse... Mel herself commented in the ring that Angie had won so shouldn,t she have more of a say than her trainers to have the decision overuled? call me naive but since when a 5 judges used to judge a bout?
thnx al.

The fighter with the highest total points should win. I was there and think it was a very close fight, somtimes when we watch some one we know fight you can only see the hits land that they throw. Also the comment about the judges smoking too much "you know" was very disrespectful, Wayne Parr's missers or not.

That is ridiculous. Its so hard on a fighter when something like that happens, and like you said, its too late once the night is over.

Just a question - did you get a look at the score cards?

Congratulations to your wife anyway, for a good fight.

Yeah, the last round was definitely Angela's with those great front kicks but don't forget she was pretty beaten up herself, left eye almost closed. Mel got plenty of leather on her earlier, but yes, I agree Angela won probably by a round.

Unfortunate as this was the only judging error all night, and just one refereeing error as James Tung was allowed to fight on too long.

I did not see the fight because I was busy preparing Paul for his fight so I cannot say who won the fight. What I can say is this.....Stephan was there to oversee the World Title fight (Carnage Vs Magomed). This issue has nothing to do with Stephan even though it was a WMC sanctioned fight, it was not a Title fight and it comes under the jurisdiction of the Oceania Muaythai Federation. The OCF has an official procedure to settle dispute. This is by making an official protest to the president of the OCF who would then organise a review of the fight by a panel of judges. The result can be upheld or changed by this panel of judges.
One has to also consider the other fighter so changing an announced result on the night against her is not a good thing to do.
Nothing against JWP but maybe he should go through this process.

If the fight was sanctioned by the WMC, there is another mistake, you cannot have a draw in a muaythai fight under the WMC banner on the score card if the decision does come to a draw the judge then must make a decision on who won based on: (1) muaythai style (2) who was leading off better (3) is other. This is listed on the score card. There has to be a decision. I am really suprised by this because I know there is usually 3 judges and a head judge and if the judges clearly get the decision wrong and it is obvious who won, the head judge (the most experienced judge) has the authority to overwrite the other judges.

I have to agree with Alan Wong it is best to follow proper procedure.

quote: scoring in aus is hard to pick one show will score on ponits skill.a nother show will score on agresion .and so on diffrent promoters diffrent rules thats whats makes it hard 4 the fight fans to under stand

Not quite right there Crazy...maybe in the old days (or on a Tarik Solak show<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>) but the judging is quite separate to the promoting. The promoter pays the appropriate judging organisation to officiate on the night. Good or bad decisions are totally the responsibility of the authority providing the judges.

You might recall Pitbull (Paul Grima) and JNI complaining about judging results in past events...not their fault, entirely independent process.
In fact that nasty business where Tony Favuzzi's wife judged his fight as there were no other WMC reps there, JNI could have qualified however as promoter he barred himself from being eligible, and indeed it was not his decision to make anyhow.

hi jwp
Stefan Fox is no good for Muay Thai. all he does is rig fights for his own poctet. The bad jugdeing happens in every state of OZ.
Its to late to follow procedure after the nights over. Who cares but the fighters after one day.
Fixed:
Its easy, Just tell Fox to stay in Thailand. Or give him a extra $50 and you are the winner. odvious isn't it.
WMC should be WMCE
Worst Mauy Thai Council Ever.
Should get the old IOC Bloke(Olympic Presendent) to announce that like he did at the end of the Sydney Olympics

From reading the most recent IK it came across that Angie should have been marked a clear winner and left the reader in no doubt that she won the fight. Not sure if this matters much to her but the magazine has a strong following so most of the kickboxing community would regard her as the winner.

Angie was later awarded the fight so I guess all is sorted now, but on the night I guess most people remember a draw being announced.
