View Full Version : 8 Man in Adelaide...fallout

Voice

Risking stirring up the ant's nest again, I wanted to ask what the fallout from this event was? I just read Hammer's and Alan Wong's articles in IK Mag (nice one Alan, say it how you see it!) and wondering if Ricardo/Parr were still paid 2nd place, any embargos on Ron for future fights etc?

I can imagine this is an absolute nightmare potential for promoters (if it happened in Syd or Melb there'd probably be a riot). I can't understand why Ricardo didn't at least begin the round and feign a muscle tear or dislocated toe or something rather than the ignominious outcome as it occurred.

Can't wait for the Fox broadcast on June 17...won't the Hammer and Shiv go off

That was a weird decision, they shouldn't have even come to the ring and 'started' the fight. Imagine the other HWs out back who missed the opportunity, an opportunity given away. I agree with Voice, could have started and had the fighter call it off after an 'incident'...
Anyway, looking forward to seeing young Ricardo again sometime I guess. Do you think he'd be blackbanned?

And just who was that ref who did the 15 year old state title fight. Sorry, they looked really young...
First time I've seen that ref, hope he refines his style a little more.

What a disgrace!!! Van Der Bos and Slowinski both had fights in 3 weeks, yet Ron Parr spared his fighter. He said Paul was in a different league and his fighter wasn't ready yet. Well why put him in the 8-man in the first place and why not let Terangi have a go instead????????? Bull****. I sure hope Van der Bos didn't get the runner up prize money, with far more deserving guys like Roger and Terangi. Very unprofessional and un-sportsman like attitude to have. I wouldn't be surprised if Ron and his fighters were being overlooked by national promoters now, and for good reason too.

van de boss, it was a shame to see him quit. **** the fight in a few weaks worry about the one you are in now! just want to know wat was wrong with pete samson, he didnt seem like he wanted to be there, would have been good to see him fire. very contraversal!! **** me fight!!!!!!! they could of atleast got a hobbo out of the crowd to be a punching bag 4 sting!!!!! (taking nothing away from paul, he is a world class fighter. just deserves quality opposition) feel sorry for the paying crowd!

Ron " the bomb " Parr indeed........

I am suprised he made it out alive. If your fighter isn't up to the challenge....then do the decent thing and give another guy a go.
And what is with " He's only 20 years old and he has a fight in 3 weeks"....... well Ron,that didn't stop you from letting Dawson defend his world title on the gold coast, then make him back it up 1 week later on Judgement Day in an 8 man eliminator!!!!!!!

Not only that, why is he in Roger's corner and also Ricardos when they represent different gyms????Both of the guys were still in the running to win the tournament.
The same thing happened when on Judgement day..... Ron Parr was in Dawsons corner..... Dixons corner and the Riddlers. What happens in the case if all 3 advance..... does ron also throw the towel cause he doesn't want his boys beating each other up?????

A low blow for kickboxing in general and extremely dodgey......
maybe Ron should try on a pinstrip suit at some stage

anyway... thanx to Foxtel for at least showing a fill in fight instead of leaving it in the sh*t.

well said spada. i just watched it again b4 i tape over it, wat about andrew peck. all talk at the stare down then didnt want a piece of sting. with all due respect to the promoters, dont give up on the 8 man tourny idea. im sure we have 8 heavyweight (a class) fighters willing to do battle. mod thai then full thai. chuck in suttie, the cheif to name a few and this tourny will go off.

Matt J
18-06-2005, 01:51 PM
and leave out andrew peck for gods sake the guy is a total stiff. loves himself and reckons he is sh*t hot, but he only has the first part right. how many times has he been knocked out now, 30?

if that was in melb, ron parr would have been ambushed!! a dissgrace indeed! how about the 1st fight with peter sampson? looked like a dive to me! and what is the deal with that spitting on the face/head in the corner of paul slowinski from his trainer?? that is just ridiculous! and dont give me that thai tradition crap! that goes for the bloody music in the backround as well! for goodness sake, we are in australia not fricken bangkok! they are there to fight and put on a good show, not prance around like fags! the thai influence is just overused in my opinion! slowinski gets hit way,way too much! he is too stiff with no head movement what so ever! after seeing that display, im back with graham for australia's best current heavyweight.

Fuska,

The "spitting" as you call it is all part of the tradition...

What's wrong with the tradition....

Would you go see a Solak production without firweorks & dancing girls (and guys I'm not comparing)...

Thai Boxing has it's rituals, this is part of it.

And as for being in Australia and not Bangkok, if the "tradition" of Thai boxing wasn't kept, you'd be watching kickboxing...there'd be no TRUE Muay Thai fighters in the country..

btw my aim now is to found a style where as part of the pre fight ritual the trainer sticks his ass in his fighters face and drops a liquid fart. ridiculous you say? well lets wait a few hundreed years then when future generations will hail it as a great tradition and still be performing it happily. Andrew Peck is an absolute gentleman and there is not a hint of arrogance about him whatsoever. Your the arrogant one here mate!!

Spada

Ron brought Ricardo out from Holland to Australia as his sponsor and he had been in Perth pre fight. Roger now lives in Perth after moving from Adelaide and trains out of the same gym as Danny Dawson which is affilaited with Ron Parr.

Fuksa

What a **** you must be!!! If you open your eyes you may have realized it wasnt spit it was water. Therevada Buddhism which dominates Thailand and therefore Muay Thai is at times very mystical. So after taking off the Mongkong either water or breath is blown through the hair or top of head to ward of negative forces.

Thai influence hey! So should Karate guys stop wearing Gi's and performing Kata's? In your small minded typical Australian attitude then yes and the music well I love it and fighting live in Thailand with live music is an experience you will never no. The Wai Khru and Ram Muay is what your prancing statement I guess refers to well in most people eyes this is a beautiful and very soft side to a very hard Martial Art and Sport.

As ZDKBUSHIDO said its Muay Thai not Kickboxing so look outside the square box you must excist in, perhaps opena book or two and expand your mind.

Lastlty I have known Ron for a long time and was trained with him for several fights one in which he took me places I didnt think was possible at the time. Im not sticking up for his desicion and didnt agree with it at all but he is a smart buisness man and obviously this lead him to his desicion.

Most definately Terangi should have gone through, I was in his corner and he was fine and was ready to go and would have put up a good fight against Paul.

Mr FUSKA, you are a funny guy. There is a solution to all your disgust of the Thai Tradition......DON'T GET INVOLVE in thai boxing if you hate it so much. Sorry to disgust you but if you look at me carefully, I have yellow skin and slanty eyes. And I am Buddhist, will you lock me up for trying to practice my beliefs. If you hear any of my fighters on Foxtel please turn away for a minute or so until the fight starts because I will continue to do what I have been taught by my trainers. I do not take offence in what you said because as a Buddhist I tend to be very tolerant of other people's beliefs. I know I cannot please everyone but I think I do have a right to practice my beliefs as you have a right to voice your opinions no matter how offensive it may be.

It is quite typical of this forum that someone always manages to reduced the topic to total bull****. The traditions performed in MT and most other MA are performed out of respect for the original masters (who were kind enough to teach foreigners) and also to preserve the cultural heritage of that art. If you feel that it is strange or even ridiculous, then of course you are welcome not to practice the art. Just keep in mind that fighting is as much about building the mind and spirit as it is about the body and that is where these rituals have real significance because MT fighters are part of a fighting tradition that has been continuing for thousands of years. Every warrior that steps into the MT ring becomes a part of that heritage.

As for the show, I feel it was a big step back for MT, an absolute disgrace, regardless of the reasons. Is it too harsh to say I hope 'The Boss' gets punished in his next bout? I'm sure it wasn't his decision but he should dump his trainer and fight for someone with more integrity.

I feel sorry for the promoters, the fans and the fighters that were all duped into thinking MT was above and beyond this type of crap.

Before commenting on aspects of tradition, I would simply advise to take a look at many of our fighters. I am constantly surprised how polite and obliging most of them are and certainly I have found it a pleasure to call many friends. In no small part this is due to the values taught to these guys (and girls) by their trainers who are often mentors.
Channeling positive energy into the ring and not negative energy into unlawful activity is the sign of a strong mind, good values and discipline. If people are not baffled how so many of our top kickboxers can be absolute wrecking machines in the ring and perfect gentlemen outside of it, then I'd suggest that some of the 'ridiculous' tradition and ritual that is taught by master trainers has actually succeeded in its intent.

He has never lived up to the hype after he won the K1 N.Z.
His much talked about hard leg kicks never seem to bother his opponents.

He should not be put on these type of cards when he has been putting on displays like he did in Adelaide for the last 4 years.

there has to be better heavyweights then what we were shown in Adelaide.

When are guys like Shiebert and Favuzzi going to get a run against
