How depressing the prospects are for boxing here. The likely end of an era in King Kostya at the tail of his career (not that the past couple years have been packed with fights), Hurricane Briggs failing in his world title attempt and a very Mundane Mundine fighting on Wednesday against an undefeated opponent likely to add to the woe.
But alas, our kickboxers have never been stronger...K1 Max final contender, JWP and guys like Sting, Carnage and TS2 at the peak of their trade.
Let's hope our promoters and fight fans solicit greater awareness and following of our great and successful sport. Hats off the our Kiwi friends, fantastic following over there, not it is time for us.

It would be great no doubt if kickboxing had the support like boxing does in aus. the young upcomers of kickboxing can be reconised earler as well and more talent will be in the ranks.
Yes all good in theory but unfortunately it is all a proces of baby steps! Yes the faltering of Australian Boxing at the moment does open the door but what the kickboxing community needs to do is raise the public image to the main stream public.
We need to start trying to get more time on TV whether it be more clips on shows like Sports Tonight etc and more articles in the paper and mainstream media such as Inside Sports and even mags like Ralph and FHM.
We need to approach more mainstream sponsors and advertisers.
as Schiavello posted elsewhere this is a niche sport with a small community but we need to work together to raise the profile in order to gain access to new sources of funds!
Well that part of my vision anyway...
Cheers

Isnt it a bit harsh to say to say aussie boxing is faltering or the prospects are depressing. Yes Tyszu, Briggs & Green all lost close World Tilte fights but the point missing is they were for World Titles! How about Robbie Peden, Vic Darchiniyan didnt they both recently win World Title bouts? How about other fighters such as the Hussein brothers, Sam Soliman and the prospect Daniel Dawson?
I would have thought Aussie boxing was in a good position not a downward slide as suggested. Perhaps Mundine can regain his title and restore some faith.

yeah, I did think of Peden and Vic but was more thinking along the lines of up and comers...the Hussy brothers have tried and not succeeded (tho one is fighting on the Tyson card this w/e), the Rock and Hollywood Foley are the only 2 who interest me at the moment. I guess the 'Friday night fights' do not hold the entertainment value they did a few years back, and the local fight scene definitely does feel tired.
Maybe just feeling some post-Kostya depression.<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
On the other hand take a look at all the kb/mt promotions popping up every month or so.
