Hi everyone

Next issue of IK magazine is going to be an exciting one, what with JWP qualifying for the K-1 Max World GP and the chance that we may FINALLY get to see a rematch with Zambo.

Below is a set of questions for a reader's poll for the next issue. I'd like to get as many answers as I can please from everyone, and to show our appreciation, IK magazine has organised a PRIZE PACK of magazines, DVDs, books, T-shirts for ONE LUCKY READER who will be chosen when all is said and done.

Answer: K1 Max. It has the best fighters from around the world, and is the most exciting division at the moment!

5. Who is the most UNDER RATED kickboxer in Australia and why?
Answer: Peter Grahame. He can fight but somehow he tends to get lost in the wilderness and people forget him.

6. Who is the most OVER RATED kickboxer in Australia and why?
Answer: Gurkan Ozkan. Tough yes, but lacks alot in other areas for him to be mentioned as great.

7. If you could see ANY RETIRED KICKBOXER come out of retirement for one last hurrah, who would you want to see and why?
Answer: Stan The Man. He was simply the best! The complete package and showman, who can pull the crowds and influence the media.

8. If you could see ANY BOXER make a move to kickboxing, who would you want to see and why?
Answer: Oscar De La Hoya. Great fighter, great showman and has that golden boy million dollar smile! Would be great for kickboxing!

Answer: Stan The Man. He had the skill, charisma and an aura unmatched to this day!

Answer: Stan V Branko I. 12 rounds of war in melbourne. Greeks and Croats...what an atmosphere!

Answer: Sharon Anyos. Sexy, strong body!

I think it would be extremely close fight.If Parr can stay clear of Zambidis's lethal right hand and drill his body and head with knees and keep a high workrate throughout with his combos,then I believe he can win on points.Both guys are hard to KO.

Both of these guys are talked about as being the best 2 thai fighters outside of Thailand.It would be great to see a battle between them under full thai rules and decide who truly is the number 1.

A big list to choose from,but I would have to say Gurkan Ozkan simply because the guy has been around for ages,and has taken on most of the big guns and keeps on fronting up for more even when he has injuries.

Definatley the K1 MAX,they have the best fighters on their books and match them up well during the year.I also like the 8 man concept they use to decide the champion.

Eugene Ekkleboom by far.He finds it hard to get fights and is heading for a WMC world title shot.

6. Who is the most OVER RATED kickboxer in Australia and why?

Gurkan Ozkan,the "supreme fighting machine" has been nowhere near his best and it doesn't look like it will return.His much talked about punching power seems to have deserted him and with major injuries
keeping him out for awhile,he is relying on past reputation.

7. If you could see ANY RETIRED KICKBOXER come out of retirement for one last hurrah, who would you want to see and why?

Josh "B1" Bromley.Retired very young due to hand problems,but remained unbeaten and it would be great to see him make a come back.

Paul Briggs.He was a great thai fighter and I think with his experience he gained with boxing,he would come back and be devastating.

John "Wayne" Parr
Has taken on the best in both Superleague and K1 MAX and has more then proven himself in Thailand.Has won world titles and also S1 Princes Cup and is as tough as nails.

The fight had it all,Mark coping a beating from head to toe before he dropped Lebanner in the last 10 secs of the fight,only to be saved by the bell.Classic!!!!!!

Jeff "duke" Roufus.He was the 1st to KO Stan,and I would like to see if it was really just a "sunday punch" or it was the beginning of Stan's decline.

At this stage the WMC seem to be the front runner.They have the muay thai scene covered and are run from Thailand.

Kaoklai,at 78 kgs he is beating guys that weigh well over 100 kgs and they haven't been able to KO him.

Parr would probably just scrape by on points - he's probably canny enough to avoid Zambo's KO attempts... and his punches are definitely at a high level, these days

I'm biased, but Rick Kulu - went 6 rounds against Tosca Pedridis despite dislocating knee in 1st (think it was in 91); took about 40 full strength leg kicks over 7 rounds from taiei kin (in 93) without going down

k1 max - this year's finals has one of the best lineups in soooo long.

john hallford - tough, determined fighter - would have destroyed johnson if the fight continued...

gurkan - people talk about his 'heart', but when things are tough, he fights dirty (though not in the ian jacobs fight - respect him for that)

probably maurice smith - power, charisma, not afraid to try MMA back when it was assumed kickboxers would get destroyed by grapplers.

would really have loved to see andy hug (fave fighter ever) fight on a few more years - still tragic...

mundine has skinny legs, but he's such a media entity, that even playing the 'bad guy' and courting criticism, he would raise public awareness for kickboxing in australia, maybe then our legitimate champions could cash in...

in Sydney I mainly see WKBF & WMC events, it seems... but really, event titles are worth more than single titles - ie 2004 K1 MAX winner etc (but dodgy K1 decisions eg 2004 K1 heavyweights negate that). I guess in the end they're all good enough.

Iron Mike Zambidis seems unstoppable at the moment, i believe the he is only improving as a fighter and the scary thing is that he says his best is still to come. Also i believe the K-1 rules will suit mike as he has no deveolped some great knee strikes...so i'd go with Zambidis.

Mike Zambidis vs Kader Marouf (Kickboxing, knees allowed) or JWP vs Daniel Dawson.

3. Who is Australia's toughest kickboxer ever? (and give reason why)
Gurkan Ozkan - Any fighter, any rules and anywhere, Gurkan has not justed talked the talk but also walked the walk. Jumping up and down weight divisions in order to shock the world and prove his critics wrong. He has been and is prepared to fight the best under there rules.

"John" Wayne Parr. He remains the only man to legitimately have Zambidis in trouble in the closing seconds of their K-1 Max Oceania final in 2003 and has improved his boxing to a much bigger extent than Zambidis has his kneeing. JWP by unanimous decision.

Nathan "Carnage" Corbett vs Paul "Hurricane" Briggs in a full Muay Thai rules, 5 x3 mins rounds, light-heavyweight bout.

Steve "superkick" Vick. I have yet to see any other Australian kickboxer take the type of punishment this man did against Hector Penna in the undercard of Alexio-Longinidis and still keep coming forward. What a warrior.

K-1 Max, just ahead of Super League. Quality fighters, quality bouts and no "Freak Factor" like the K-1 Heavyweights. Much respect to Evolution and Rising Promotions though, they ooze quality. Did I leave anybody out....? Nope.

Nathan "Nastyboy" Briggs. If he was to be matched against the likes of Paul Slowinski or Peter Graham, he would be the underdog, and rightfully so due to his inconsistency. However, he is more than capable of upsetting anybody if he is switched on and motivated, which is not always the case. Unfulfilled potential.

John Hallford. Despite all the hype, he still hasn't beaten any of the big names he claims he can beat due to untimely injuries. He very well could, but I have yet to see it, and so it will continue to be hype until that happens.

7. If you could see ANY RETIRED KICKBOXER come out of retirement for one last hurrah, who would you want to see and why?

Louie "Ice" Iosifidis. He was exposed as a Thai fighter and subsequently retired by Anthony Vella, but he had the potential to become a world kickboxing champion in the mold of Steve Vick and Ian Jacobs. I think today's K-1 Max rules would suit him perfectly.

8. If you could see ANY BOXER make a move to kickboxing, who would you want to see and why?

Mike Tyson would be an absolutely vicious Thai or K-1 fighter. He'd have no trouble going 3 to 5 rounds at full speed, which is what he relies on nowadays to get the win anyway. Try to imagine the force, were he taught the proper technique, of a Mike Tyson elbow, knee or leg kick? That's a scary thought.

Stan "The Man" Longinidis. He put Australian kickboxing on the map and continues to be a great ambassador even today. He had charisma, impeccable technique and was a warrior through and through. The blueprint of what a true champion should be, in and out of the ring.

WMC now. in 2005 none of the others hold much water anymore, its not 1990 anymore when the wka and iska help a level of prestige. its all gotten silly as we all know.

Zambides. punches better than anyone,kicks as well as anyone, has added legitimately dangerous jumping reverse knees to his game and is on a roll.

it's nice to hear everyones opinion on the readers poll but,i must say one of the most exquisit kickboxers i have ever seen float around the ring was PETER SUGAR FOOT CUNNINGHAM. one of his greatest bouts was against (dieda defiat)the french man. do yourselve's a favour and check it out. then you will know what im talking about!!!!!! there would be not many to match him today in his weight today fighting KB rules. i think.

ANS ~ Gurkan Ozkan. He's strong and tough and can fight but sometimes he digs to big a hole for himself. His mouth is bigger than his skills.

ANS ~ Stan The Man, he was a showman whom could draw the attention of everyone. Anybody who could get more publicity fot the sport of kickboxing in Australia would have to be great.

Zambidis. A complete fighter with power to boot that can beat absolutely anyone at his best. Zambidis will land the more significant shots on his way to a unanimous decision win.

Stan The Man Longindis. Lived on a concrete floor of the Jet Centre for 2 years, not knowing if wht he was doing would ever pay off. Tough and determined in SPIRIT as well as fighting ability.

K-1 heavyweights. Look hard enough and there is still some good talent there.

Chris Johnson. A good fighter with decent abilities in all areas who doesn't get a whole lot of attention. Hopefully his win over Gurkan will give him more dates on the big shows.

Gurkan Ozkan. Gets too much recognition for silly antics. Recognized often for the wrong reason.

Stan Longinidis. If a figher is going to make a comeback, for better or worse, it's good for it to be a big event that the general public can identify with, like when a former heavyweight boxing champ makes a comeback. Stan would be the only one to make an event out of it.

Anthony Mundine. Yes, to see him lose!

Truly amazing list of achievements, did it all, 8 CREDIBLE world titles, won belts in all the main rulesets, first heavyweight to win WMC title in Thailand, first to win a tournament, fought everywhere, involved in some of the biggest fights in the history of Aussie kickboxing. First superstar of kickboxing. A legend.

1 - Wayne Parr, because being allowed to use his knees he would nulify Zambidis punching power and counter with his own, it's easier to block and slip punches than it is to try and get out of a 'cast iron' grapple when your opponent is kneeing the hell out of whatever part of your torso comes into the fireing line.
Parr has excellent defence against hand and kick combinations due to his vast experience, the fight would be hard and close, but I give it to JWP on points as he also posses good hard punching and picks.

2 - Steve Mckinnon v Natathan Corbett (JWP V Zambidis 11 5x3 mins modified Thai (no elbows).

3 - Paul Briggs, because he put himself through the school of hard knocks in Thailand, became a legitimate World champion, had the courage and forsite to turn himself into a 'western style' boxer who is about to take the WBC World title, now thats what I call tough, not just physically, but mentally, and all the while remains approachable and humble.

4 - K-1 Max, because the shows showcase the best middleweights in the world, it's a **** up between Max and Superleague.
(I wanted to say Evolution but so many of the top Euro boxers that I want to see fight arent available for Evo. under full Thai rules, which is unfortunate.)

5 - In 2005 i'd say Pixie, last year i'd have said Bruce Mcphee, but Bruce is now making a name for himself.

6 - Any of the newer fighter's that turn up with 4 KO's against unknowns and get billed as the "One punch wrecking machine etc.", and then move up the ranks to be KO'd themselves by a credible fighter and never heard from again, eg: Wissam Fatale.

7 - Ramon Dekker (under Thai rules, not UFC rules)

8 - Anthony Mundeine (oohh yeah, come get some.)

9 - JWP, he's the Thai Kings champion, legitimate World champion, beats some of the best in the world in Max and Superleague,was National boxing champion, and continues to improve.

10 - Ramon Dekker v Orono

11 - Angie Parr
