Just curious, who do you consider the best Thai fighter ever to fight in Australia? was it Dekker or Namkubaun, or Sang tien or Nuanturanee, or Johmohd, or Sitisak or Jongsanan ect,

Man very good question and a hard one to answer, throw Sakad peytchinde, Changpuek and ofcourse Sakmongkol into the mix as well. Allthe guys you mentioned are all sort of the same era I think though Nuaturanee and Namkubaun being slightly older were both awesome Lumpinnee champions in there own right. Jomhod defeated Sitisak twice for the Lumpinne and Rajadmnern titles and also won a WMC World Title plus nurmerous other world titles after he moved to Finland. Jongsanan who still fights to this day won numerous major titles in Thailand as well as world titles and cant be dicounted and ofcourse Sangtien falls into this same catergory. Sangtien, Jomhod and Jongsanan all defeated the best the west had to offer also. Well its a hard question to answer? Did Dekker fight here in Oz? Was itin Melbourne and who did he fight? I have a vague recollection of it that it was v a fighter from OS. Theres even more to add to the mix I think that I am trying to remember as Phon always brought down champions when he 1st started promoting in Perth int e early 90's. Maybe he would be a good person to ask as most of these guys were peaking around this time. I think you could take out Namkhabuan as his career probably ended to soon due to the fact he was cut very easily around the eyes.

But im going to have a shot a put Sakmongkols name in "The Million dollar man" is hard to go past.

Would be good to hear JWP opinion.

Ramon fought John Bing in Melb, i think by way of titles Jomhod would be hard to beat and he still fights now, Sakmongkol, Sangtien, and the others are all up there, check out the article in the next IKB mag

Dekker thanks for clearing that up, Jon Bing now I remember. What I was thinking about was they were all great in diff ways. Sangtien was a great counter fighter, Namkhabuan a great grappler, knees and technique, Jomhod super hard kicks( yer your right about his titles for sure) Sakmongkol also with punishing bone breaking kicks and knees, Jongsanan was very tactical, great knees and grappling,Nuanturanee was again very tactical and was also great at reading his opponent. Ofcourse Dekker was just amazingly exposlive power in both hands, awesome accuracy and technically brilliant. Anyway just thoughts.

Is this the same Jomhod that destroyed Paul Briggs with the hardest leg kicks I have ever witnessed in my life in 1994 at Brisbane Festival Hall? There was a Sitisak on the undercard as well, is this the same fighter you guys are mentioning?

I would have to say Jomhod, one scary Thai. I think that was the one of the first times a Thai team came out to Australia to fight the Aussie's, all the Thai's were awesome but then Jomhod walked out and he was on another level again.
All the other Thai's mentioned are all legends as well. I miss the days when all these guys were on the ciruit, they have all retired and there is no real Thai Super Stars anymore. My first year in Thailand in 1996 was when the beer Chang tournament was on with Sangtien, Sakmongkon, Pirote, Namkabon, Jongsanan, Charnded, Wanlop, those were the days.

Yea Wayne, those were the days ,i too was fortunate enough to see Pirote, Namkabon, Nuantaranee all fight at Lumpinee,(packed to the rafters) and train with Nuantaranee, he was awesome on the pads and his fights with Sangtien were some of the best, that was a golden era that i dont think will be repeated, yes that was a great card that night at festival hall with Paul, Nugget,Brad Carter, Tony Hill all fighting quality Thai's, Jomhod was a class above and like i said he is still fighting beating the likes of Ole Larsen (twice) and Wanlop recently, the guy is amazing
