Are there any well known females in Muay Thai?

I noticed that in many kickboxing & Muay Thai clubs, the amount of women taking part is rather small relative to the males.

This is the case in Kickboxing, Muay Thai & Kyokushin karate.

Unlike Taekwondo, where there is a mixture of both females & males.

Why is that the case? Is it like that globally; or only in Australia? Do Muay Thai teachers usually have different Training methods for women? In Thailand...are there more women doing Muay Thai?

Is it possible for a woman to have strong shins? I mean, I've never seen a woman kick banana trees before.

Maybe it is because elbows are known to scar and disfigure... Just a thought.

Hate to break it to you guys, but I have as many girls training in Thai Boxing as guys, (and most of the time they train harder, and spar harder). In fact, when I began training fighters, the first two that volunteered to get in the ring were girls.

I think our school has lots of girls mainly because the instructor is soooooo good looking.

I only say it cause its true.

In the 1st club I ever attended, there were a lot of good looking males, but that didn't get more females in the club.

Besides, when the training is tough & serious, you don't get time to check out any goodlooking guys !!

In fact, in that particular club, there were a hand full of females, (4 or 5), the rest were males.

And in the tournaments, the amount of females taking part was quite small in comparison to the males. Although, I remember one female kickboxer who was really good.

Sometimes, you would get females joining, but they would disappear half way during the term.

ALthough, Most of the females did take part in the gym & aerobics part of the club.

I've seen Taekwondo clubs before...and the amount of females is equal to the amount of males. That really astonished me... In the kickboxing/Muay Thai boxing clubs I've been to...they are mostly male students.

It's like how at university, you would see more females in the humanity courses ...but no females in the Engineering courses. etc.

It's amazing... There was a Kyokushin club I saw, and there were absolutely no females in it. !!! Yet hundreds of males.

It does sound reasonable that the majority of women keep away from MArtial Arts because of the high injury rate.

When I practice sparring with a male, I notice that his shins are much stronger than mine, and in return I don't seem to be able to take as much impact as he can. When I block with my shins...it KILLS !!!! For him, it's normal !!!
But I still have hope that my shins can get as strong 'one day'...(I hope it's 'useful' hope)

Besides, I've never seen Muay Thai tournaments for women...do they exist?

How far can a woman's physique take her in the world of MArtial Arts Fighting?? Can someone please give me some names of some really good female fighters I can look up and read about?
