NEW YORK: The boss of the World Boxing Council has lodged a $US56 million ($103.8m) lawsuit against Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson for injuries he says he sustained during a press conference brawl.
Jose Sulaiman, the president of the WBC, alleges he was knocked unconscious and spat on when Tyson and Lewis traded blows at the news conference here in January.
Sulaiman filed a legal case with the Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday. The long-serving 71-year-old Mexican official alleges he was knocked unconscious when thrown against a table.
The WBC chief also alleges Tyson spat at him and threatened to kill him during the melee, according to the legal bid.
No incidents involving Lewis are mentioned in the court documents but the British champion has been named with Tyson in Sulaiman's action.
Sulaiman was taken to hospital and treated for light bruising after violence erupted at the press conference on January 22.
The brawl eventually led to the cancellation of the Lewis-Tyson bout scheduled for Las Vegas in April.
The two rivals eventually fought in Memphis in June, with Lewis winning by a knockout.
