hey guys,

just a quick note for 'Im ouk', good luck with the show tonight. i know you've had many huddles to jump with this show and i respect you greatly for your persistance and perseverence. i look forward to tonight, and the show in september. with aebertong on the next card it will be a huge show for melbourne... i'm actually keen to see brett and aeb to go at it again...

i hope to see a good turn out tonight... with the melbourne muay thai community coming to support the cambodians. this show represents more than just another fight night, it's a cultural event celebrating the 2000yr old fighting art of the cambodians.

as a friend and supporter of im...i'm personally excited to have the art of Kun Khmer (cambodian boxing) join the melbourne scene. hopefully it will do more to support Traditional (ie GENUINE) Muay Thai and the two styles will grow through a mutual respect and support, rather than suffer the state of separation and contempt that Muay Thai and Kickboxing seem to discreetly hold for eachother.

im sure the "Big Fish" in melbourne's kickboxing pond, can accommodate for Im and the cambodians, along with their desire to present their culture to the community through this fighting event... i feel that the cambodians represent a huge part of the fighting arts community and would be a demographic bonus to Kickboxing/Muay Thai/Kun Khmer events in the future.

i hope we can all support Im and his first show...

The cambodians have a martial arts call brodai serei. Is Kun Khmer an off-shoot ? Good luck to the contenders !

Note to Tao
The problem with Im doing a show in Melbourne it has not been explained to you well. the fact is that as any promoter and trainer already knows when you are trying to do a show you should not do one on the same month (7 day apart) in the same suburb. If you do not want to create any problems.
There is no Problems with Im running a Cambodian fight night I just expect him to keep it well clear off my local show.
You would get the same treatment if you tried that in any state of Australia and it would not matter if it was a Muay Thai/Kickboxing show or not.
The fact is if you loose money enough times you will learn not to be so stupid.
You are only new to the sport Tao. don't jump in the pool with the BIG FISH Because you need to learn to swim first.

hello to all,

let me just add my clarification to my post so that it is not met with any confusion...

i agree with you michael, in regards to having shows too close together. it doesnt benefit either promoter financially. as well as distrupting the fight card due to injuries that fighters on both cards may sustain... i was merely stating that if everyone worked together the shows would have good credibility. the shows could be more regular with a diverse range of styles that would really give the crowd a great show and value for their money...

as for my involvement in Muay Thai... there is no way that i would ever become involved with promotion. this is simply not a job for me. i have seen the stress involved with putting on shows and that it takes a person far more business-minded than myself. no promotion is not my thing at all... so learning to swim in the promoters pond is something i'll never do...

however, as you've said i'm new on the melbourne scene, and i'm enjoying putting together (as slowly as it may be) a small fight team that i hope will eventually grow into a strong fight team. but i'm only new to this sport in melbourne. i've done my yards throughout thailand, and fought extensively throughout QLD, Thailand, China, and Taiwan. hopefully i can transfer this experience to my students and continue to develop a fight team, then i'll be able to give you some guys for your shows along with george kolovos and his shows, paul shearing's shows, etc.

i'm simply a trainer. i'm not cut out for promotion, or anything to do with it. i want my guys to get as much experince as they can when they're ready. i support anyone putting on shows that encourage our sport. i'm certainly not trying to dictate how to promote or who should promote. i would just like to see the sport grow constructively so that fighters of the future, develop as well as the QLD fighters have done. i love our sport and hope you and the other local promoters continue to provide quality shows so our guys can do what they also love.

Is this a bare knuckle sport?

How did it go?

hey paul

nah it's not a bare knuckled fight they glove up same as Muay thai. there were 4 amateur fights first with full protection (head gear, chest protectors, shin pads etc) there were a couple of under 18's fighting in this category. i think that under 18's have to wear protection here in melb. the main events were fought under the same rules as full thai. i only saw the 1st 2 fights then had to go to work. both guys were from sityodtong and both won in the second round, when the towel was thrown in.

i'll let someone who saw the whole thing explain the details.

HI TAO - YOU PUT YOUR POINTS ACROSS CLEARLY AND KINDLY (XEPT 4 YA SPAT ON THE TASI SITUATION, BUT FAIR ENOUGH MAN), BUT THAT'S ALL YOU CAN DO. THERE'S MORE GOING ON IN MELBOURNE KICKBOXING THAN YOU MIGHT BE AWARE OF. TRY TO STAY OUT OF IT, AND FOCUS ON YA FIGHTERS. IF YA SKILLS MATCH YA BRAINS THEN YA PROBABLY A GOOD TRAINER! PEACE MY MAN

P.S. STEPHAN FOX SEMINAR SOUNDS WICKED. CANT MAKE IT COZ OF WORK BUT HOPE WE SEE MORE OF W.M.C IN MELB SOON

If there were Muay Thai stylists fighting on this show, can anyone tell me what makes it a "Cambodian Boxing Show"? There is no mention of Muay Thai on the flier either.
