Record offer for Mundine

The Australian

ANTHONY MUNDINE has been offered a share of the biggest purse for an all-Australian fight to take on former Olympian Danny Green.
Green, his trainer Jeff Fenech and NSW central coast promoter Angelo Hyder are expected to issue a $250,000 challenge on behalf of a mysterious investor in Gosford today.

According to Fenech, the only thing missing will be the signature of Mundine, who is in the Big Brother house on the Gold Coast.

Even when Mundine leaves the house, it's doubtful he will sign because of the bad blood between him and Fenech and the fact a loss to Green would probably end his career.

"The prizemoney I am offering is the biggest purse ever for a fight between two Australians in this country," Hyder said.

"Green has accepted and if Mundine wants to gain the respectability that he so regularly brags about, this is an offer he can't refuse."

Green has won all eight of his professional fights by knockout and could challenge Mundine, 27, for the Pan Asian Boxing Association super-middleweight title he won when he stopped South African Roland Francis on the Gold Coast in April.

Mundine, who beat 37-year-old Lester Ellis in a farcical bout last week, has said he wouldn't fight Green, 28, until Green proved himself against more credible opponents.

And now he takes a fight from another aging fighter with a dubious past, no disrespect intended to Shannon, but fight Danny Green for f@$k sake.

I think Taylor will be to small to hurt Mundine. He has been knocked out to many times in a row by smaller people then Mundine. I'm no fan of choc and would love to see him on his ass but I don't think Taylor has the goods. His to much of a brawler and likes to wear down his opponent and like I said he doesn't have the size to do it.
Cheers

I agree, Taylor has been on a downhill slide ever since the Mosley fight. I want to see Paul Briggs smash the hell out of Mundine. 76kg is way too heavy for Shannon Taylor imo.

Yo, Glenn.
I think we have all had enough of the feeble opponants that Mundine has fought (except for a couple). I mean how many more retired or nearly retired at the end of their career fighters is he going to fight, before he gets knocked out by another opponant that he says "punches like a girl"
He even fights people who aren't even in his weight class, Taylor has to go up 7kg, Lester had to drop heaps to get down.
The only reason most people keep getting the main event is because a great percentage want to see him ko'd (including you and I).

Hey Jack,
Do you remember Louie at Sidyodtong, the Thai who was kicking the pads like a horse? he's fighting in Sydney in a couple of weeks against a local lad. I pity the poor guy fighting him!
Do you record the foxsports shows? I haven't been able to see much this year due to work on Friday + Saturday nights and would love a copy of the upcoming Super 8 in Queensland!!!!!!

Pic: Mundine Vs Heath Stenton.

You know guys, much earlier in his career I really thought that Mundine was slowly working his way up the ladder.
I know nothing about Aussie Boxing, but at about the time that Mundine fought Stenton, I really thought that for the amount of experience Anthony had, that Heath was a pretty good challenge.
I was basing this oppinion only on the fact that Stenton seemed a really worthy opponent for Ozkan, whom Gurkan fought against to win the Victorian state title.
At about this time I enjoyed watching Mundine's steady progress and wished him the best for his carreer. I thought the negative stuff bagging Mundine at that time was pretty groundless. I thought it was just sour grapes from those that were pissed off with how much money and support he was getting from the very first fight and on.
I guess I was an automatic fan of Anthony's simply because I admired his father so much as a child. I lived in Erskineville as a kid during the very early to mid 70s, and there was a boxing gym on the corner of my street (Charles St and Erskinville rd) where myself and my other 7 and 8 year old mates would spend hours and hours there just watching fighters sparr. Anthony's dad was a legend in this area (Erskineville is only about a 10 minute walk to where the Mundine Gym is now) and his photo's were all over the gym. Just about every second person you talked to reckoned they were his cousin or some other relation.

I dunno, It's impossible to argue against you blokes because you and 90% of the boxing fans out there are off course right.
I just can't believe that Mundine has chosen to do this to his own carreer. I think he's lost all his credibility, even to people like me who were hoping he'd stop with the crap and start taking on fighters whom were in the same league. But instead he's chosen to simply make some money now, but to throw his longer term boxing carreer away. I truely believe the guy had some natural talent a while back for a boxer of his experience, but it means nothing now as no one at all will be taking him seriously.

The above pic only shows about half of the photographers and journo's that were at this fight. AAP, All Sport, The Age, plus guys from another couple of newspapers that I didn't get to speak to.
I haven't been to a Mundine fight since, but I imagine the media isn't as excited these days. And of those that are, I imagine a few are there hoping to see Anthony get Knocked right out of boxing and back to Footy.

When are you going to fight someone your own age Mr Mundine?? Cant everyone see that we are falling right into Mundine's little plan...He pissed off so many people and he knew that by doing this every man and his dog would pay a fortune to fight him! But I give him this he is a good fighter to watch, but its time to fight someone ya own age.....

Good fighter to watch ? I rather watch paint dry. I think for the type of opponents he his fighting he is very avrege. I mean his always got the advantege in weight or age. He should be throwing better combos and playing with these kind of fighters. Not just throwing the old one two and move waiting for them to tier and then come in for the kill.
Cheers
