Gurkan has more experience, more power and hopefully now that he is training with the legendary Fyfield - more stamina and techniques - making him less predictable.
If Gurkan does not KO Arthur in the first three rounds, and there is a huge possibility this will happen, then it may look risky for Ozkan.
I think the longer the fight goes the better the chance for Arthur to come through. he has power, technique and can take a punch, but he takes longer than a 85 yr old geriatric trying to have a piss to get going.
Gurkan should go in hard early, pick his shots, rip out a few hard combos and it will be over within 3. Otherwise good luck Ozkan, because once the viagra kicks in Arthur does have the potential to hurt Ozkan.

Only a couple of weeks to go.

Krama, I agree with all that you've said, though I have to ask myself how many of Arthur's slow starts are intentionally deliberate performances so that he's in the ring for more than a minute.

I don't know about you, but just about every Tsakonas fight I've seen, bar Vs Zampogna, I got the impression that Arthur was just taking advantage of the fight as if it were a sparring session. As soon as he would open up with a serious combo (espescially when he'd dig in hard with his mid kicks) the fights were over in seconds.

Having said all of the above, I don't think we'll see anything different this time as far as how long it takes for him to get started. I'm sure he'll try and drag the fight out to his advantage.

I forgot to add,

I saw Gurkan at Lucy Show quite a few weeks ago now. He's looking super fit as usual, and is super confident. Also, the scar from the last show looked like it had healed very well.

Hi Guys,
Paul, I was there when Arthur beat Gino. It was an all out war and one of the best I've seen. I was also there when Arthur boxed a 'boxer' on a show (can't remember his name there were no programs)and he pulped him in the first round.
I'd have to say when Arthur enters the ring, he's so laid back he's almost asleep! I couldn't believe it when I saw him before the boxing fight. His movements were slow, he even blinked slow! But when the bell rang, man did he switch on!
In regard to the question with Gurkan, I'd have to agree with Krama. The longer it goes the better it will be for Arthur. If he can withstand the enslaught from Gurkan in the opening two rounds, then he'll be the one standing at the end. Arthur has big guns in them fists.

I'm jealous I didn't see Gino and Arthur fight live Ian. I did see the highlights on video though and agree with you, one of the best I've seen also.

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Starr came out of retirement.

Gurkan has prepared very well for this fight. He knows that this fight will be the start of his comeback he deserves. He does also understand that there are many people who know his weaknesses, but now I bet the flaws will be a "trap" for his future opponents.

Tsokonas is very sharp but his fight plan is ****e, Gurkan will break him in half before the 3rd round. Tsokonas fight plan is Gurkans desert.

- how old is Arthur?

Paul, I've spoken with Shane a few times now and with what happened with him I don't think it's worth the risk (as much as I'd like to see him back too). Aneuryisms are serious injuries and I'm just glad that he wasn't in the ring when he collapsed. Can you imagine the stories?....mainstream media would have had a field day. He's happy doing what he's doing making a living out of playing Action Man. I'm sure he mentioned to me that he was going to do some stunt work as well. I'm surprised IK mag didn't do a full story on him and what has happened to him since. I might follow it up if Jeremy wants. Pity, he was on the edge of making a big impact professionally.

Janer, I dont know how old Tsakonis is but he's younger than Gurkan surely. Gurkan has been around for ages now. I think he's just about at the end of his reign. Guessing I'd say Arthur would be 25-26? How old is Gurkan?

Slyman, Gurkan is 31 years old (give or take a year). When you say he is at the end of his reign, Gurkan will disagree with you. The last time I had a deep and meaningfull with him he mentioned that he has never felt mentally and physically tougher than before. I remember back in the days, Gurkan was terryfying within 2 rounds and if it went further, Gurkan ran out of gas. If you watch the last few fights, he does tend to slow it down and pace him self. I guess he has learnt to pick his shots alot more carefully. And what he did tell me that, there are many fighters STILL in his sights which arent too far away. Arthur will be his leap back for Gurkan.

I remember I was cruising down chapel and Gurkan yelled "stop trying to pick up chicks!!" I laughed at him as he was on a racing bike without a top on! He was sweating like no tommorrow. So if Gurkans fitness has improved, id say he still has another 2 years in the sport. Well I hope so!

I think Arthur is only about 22 or 23.

If Arthur can make it through the first few rounds he is in with a big chance. He took a huge right hand from Gurkan in the first fight with Gurkan, and it failed to knock him out..maybe thats a sign that he can stand up to Gurkans power.

By the way Arthur is 27.

I spoke to Gurkan on the phone last night regarding his fight with Arthur a couple of days ago.

I was honestly surprised when he told me that he stepped into the ring without a real fight plan for Arthur. I personally thought that it was the most disciplined I had ever seen in a very important fight for Gurkan (I’ve only been following the sport since late 98 early 99 and have missed most of his classic fights).

He also said something very funny. He said that he’s so relieved that this fight is over, because it was in the making for so long, and then the accidental elbow. Anyway, he said that even though his never been married, that it feels as if he’s finally been given his divorce papers, and can stop thinking about Arthur. Hehe.

Ozkan has a lot of respect for Arthur as a fighter, he also mentioned that Arthur took shots that would have dropped many of Ozkan’s past opponents. I sincerely hope that such a talented young fighter doesn’t retire. Our sport, espescially the weight division would be much poorer for the loss of such an athelele after his one and only loss in Kickboxing.

Gurkan is now looking forward to the fight with John Hallford, and will be training very hard all the way to face what he knows to be a tough and very skilled opponent.

Looking forward to seeing all my Sydney kickboxing friends at the fight.

Mark Tyson, good luck to both you and John Halford. I’m sure it’s going to be a spectacular fight regardless of who wins or loses.
