MELBOURNE's former world champion Lester Ellis wants to fight Anthony Mundine this year.
"The money is the sticking point," Ellis's manager Mark Hagan said yesterday. "Lester has been saying he's happy for the winner to take all, but we have to talk that over with them."
Mundine's manager Khoder Nassar yesterday confirmed there would be talks with Hagan.
After Mundine won the PABA super-middleweight title fight against South African Roland Francis on the Gold Coast on Monday night, Ellis confronted Mundine in the ring.
"I came from the plane to the place to challenge Mundine," Ellis said.
"Danny Green's talking about fighting him.
"Then there's Rick Thornberry, the guy who just went 12 rounds with (IBF world champion) Sven Ottke, the guy who knocked Mundine out. We had to do something."
Ellis said he does not need the money from the fight, but he "just can't cope with Mundine's mouth".
"Does he ever shut up?" he said.
Ellis last fought as a lightweight on April 29, 1996 against Kostya Tszyu victim, American Calvin Grove, who knocked him out in four rounds.
In the past two years Ellis has been involved in kickboxing.
Ellis said if he beats Mundine convincingly he may even approach Ottke's management for a title fight.
Ellis said he will go to a health farm on Thursday for three months to get down to 71 kilograms. He said he will hire a dietitian to help him make the weight.
"I'll probably give away a stone to him (Mundine), but I'm a reflex fighter and I don't want to be too slow," he said.
Ellis thinks the fight will be in 14 weeks at Melbourne's Festival Hall, where he won his first world title.
