all i have to say to anyone who is implying that the fight on sunday night was rigged, is that if it was indeed rigged...then ozkan is a bigger piece of crap than i thought for taking money to go down...simple as that...to me someone who goes down for money is worth nothing and cant contribute anything to the sport...quite simple

it applies to anyone who goes down for money...if u are implying that stan went down for money so did ozkan...it works both ways...and whoever goes down for money in my books is nothing

gurkan was on the back foot from the start! zambidis was on him like a rash showing NO RESPECT! the fact is gurkan was quickly intimidated by mikes power, speed and skill! if there is a rematch sometime in the future how would gurkan change the way he fought? the guy tried to go toe to toe and got tagged every single time! the fact is zambidis is in a class of his own and gurkan is not in the same league, he is not even in the same ballpark infact his fighting style is like a semi contact sport compared to iron mike's brutal attacks! do you remember how gurkan got koed? he tried to launch a right hand but got tagged by the BIGGEST over hand right you will ever see! the only thing i agree with you on is the fact that gurkan did not fight dirty when he knew the fight was lost! i respect him for that! if tarik does him the dissfavour of rematching zambidis asap the guy will lose again. you know why? because his style of fighting is to brawl. no skill. just brawl. and we all know how zambidis loves to plant his head into someones chest and fire away! gurkan does not have what it takes to beat the likes of zambidis! bring on some new meat!

Hi Janer,
I have been sitting here patiently waiting for your post, 2 1/2 days after the event.
I pride myself on not slagging off at any fighter or regular contributor to this forum, so I have no reservations about asking the following.
You are not implying at all that Gurkan had an injury coming into the fight! I would have thought you were reasonably chummy with Gurkan to be able to ask what happened.
Please comment or else this topic will go on forever at this rate!
Still kicking strong at 42!

I totally agree with Janer on this one... never in the years ive been watching gurkan have i seen him the way he was..
the best i saw at most was a 3 punch 1 kick combo in the entire 12 rounds.. no explosion that he is renowned for.. no butterfly.. no 10-15 punch barrage that he lays on his opponent in a matter of seconds.. in fact he would of been lucky to have connected 10-15 good punches in the entire fight...
after all that was said however the fight did go to zambidis and i am positive that after gurkan watches the fight tape he will prepare himself in an entirely different manner for the next fight
sure ull say we are making excuses for him.. but if zambo had fought the same way on nov 30 as gurkan did we would have twice as many posts on this forum defending the little pocket rocket
best wishes to ya ozkan well done zambidis
keep goin gurkan ur a champion!!

gurkan was intimadated in there!graham, fagan and those guys didnt have the ability to hurt you the way zambo does! And theres the proof!Ozkan got caned in all of them but zambo is the one that almost killed him!if ozkan opened up more he took the risk of getting caught!didnt you notice he tried to open up and unload about 10 secs before he went to sleep??Trade with zambo??big mistake!

Why fighters loose at this level is incidentle. A loss is a loss what ever way it is looked at, its as simple as that!

Gurkan Ozkan lost fair and sqaure, but i belive that was not the real Gurkan we saw, everyone would agree to that, Gurkan diddnt throw a punch, he diddnt explode he diddnt do nothing. Gurkan looked like he diddnt no what was going on, he looked like he tried to finish of the 12 rounds and thats it, he looked really lost, could he have been drugged?? who knows, but the Gurkan we know never gives up, and he will be back to revenge his loss. GO GURKAN YOU GOT ALL THE RESPECT!!!

First of all,
Big congrats to Mike Zambidis and his camp.
The guy had an awesome win and did it with great flair.
Ozkan,
No, that wasn't the Ozkan that I know in there.
No, I'm not implying that it was rigged for a single second.
I just don't know how the hell he got himself into that state as soon as the fight began.
I know Mike hit's hard, but I didn't expect Gurkan to give him more respect than most of the bigger guys he's fought.
I don't know what happened, but I knew Gurkan was going to loose from the second round. Never have I seen him moving back before like that.
And, as Janer says, I also didn't see him have a single decent exchange with Mike like he did dozens of times with RIco.

you never saw him back up like that??gurkan ALWAYS used to back himself up and into the ropes when under pressure!jacobs, vermes, may, graham etc etc.and he shouldnt have exchanged like he did with that boxer because he would have gone to sleep quicker!when you fight a pure puncher its always diferent!

S.P
I have no idea what was going on with Ozkan, but am suggesting he looked beaten to me at the end of the first round. There was just something different about him (expressions on his face etc) while fighting Mike, compared to many of the big guys he was fighting. Check out the replay on T.V, it just looked as if he knew a good smack of Mike would put him away, even though it's never happened before period.
Again, I'm not making excuses, just saying to me he looked mentally defeated by the end of the first. During the third, I saw Mike mouthing something like 'Now I'll show you'' to Ozkan. I knew then and there it was over.
Hey, does anyone know why Paul Fyfield wasn't in Gurkan's corner?
I heard him yelling instructions from behind my Neutral corner.

well paul c i think you hit the nail on the head!zambo beat gurkan to a pulp with not only his fist but also mentaly!when gurkan tried to showboat, mike did it back but also punished gurkan as he did it...advantage zambo!ur right, gurkan fought scared after mike tagged him in the early rounds like he knew that a good shot from mike would do him in.when he felt the power he went into a shell.guess what,he was right!a good shot did do him in!at the end of the day mike is quicker, hits harder, kicks better, has better footwork and better fitness.

I think it is true that the the Ozkan you saw on Sunday night was not the real Ozkan, however I propose a reason.
Maybe it is because Gurkan Ozkan has never fought against a hard-hitting terror like IRON MIKE ZAMBIDIS.
You can argue that it wasn't the Ozkan you have seen, but that s because he was defeated from the first round. How can he possibly "explode" or connect with combos when he knows the blocking skills of Zambidis are superior, and that he wont get anywhere.
Ozkan knew that Zambidis had a magnificent ability to hurt, thus he could not fight the way he is used to, and therefore you did not see the Ozkan that you are used to.
Keep making excuses, nothing can take the glory away from Iron Mike.
He was, is, and always will be a better fighter than Gurkan Ozkan.

But the thing is when Gurkan did try to punch, he had nothing in those punches, he looked full on dazed out unprepared, Gurkan has fought many stronger fighters then Zambidis and has battled with them to the last bell. Phil Fagan, Trevor Ambrose, Rico Chong Nee, Paul Briggs, Peter Graham, Let i say more.....

meabe gurkan has a split personality.
Maebe fight night it was his better side in the ring instead of his im a fighter in and out of the ring and i was holding back at stan ill bash yas all right nowwwwww side.
or maebe his been doing bit to much drugs, thats why he had to wear those sunnys to the press conference to hide his stoner eyes cause i sure didnt see any sun in there.
