Ben Smullens: look at the reality

Realistically, Ben Smullens is a joke.

I agree and follow the idea that every fighter who jumps in the ring is a warrior. However, if you have a mouth like Smullens.. You just want to see this dummy get knocked out. I once spoke to him and he was telling me how Baris Nezif and Jenk wouldnt fight him. He has way too much confidence, is this the weed he's on? My opinion was derived from the conversation I had with him and the way I have actually seen him FIGHT.

He is not a well conditioned fighter and nor does he look like one. How can you walk in the ring as if you were collecting your dole payments from centrelink? Shave the beard. You never see a world champion with an overly grown beared. Smullens is a joke. He is not a serious fighter and he is not potentially a half decent fighter. He is one of those fighters who promoters throw in to a fight so there main fighters look good. Smullens has no brain and thats why his style doesnt look like a mongoloid, but eventually he will take too many knocks to the head and realise he should step aside. I dont see how promoters are allowed to mismatch fights. It hasnt happened yet but pls MR solak, Kelly seif etc dont put this guy in the ring with someone half good. We dont need fighters who lack respect and prestige. Combat sports from karate to boxing, its all business and If i was to bring one of my mates to a fight and smullens would be fighting, what am i promoting to my mates? a joke? There are alot more people who dont know about kickboxing then who do. This is business.

Smullens get serious about your sport or retire so you dont damage the integrity and the hard work that is making kickboxing one of the most exciting sports to watch.

Talk about not liking a guy. I have seen Ben fight and i thought he was pretty tough. he doesn't back off from a fight and really he fights anyone. If you have some pesonal problem with the guy that is your prob but don't slag the guy cause he is trying to have a go. AS for the bragging tell a fighter that doesn't brag.

I've allways found him to be an enthusiastic and very polite fighter.
You're entirely entitled to your opinion, but I truelly think that you're underestimating his ability.

I only found out a couple of weeks ago that he's had 20+ fights. I don't know why, but I kinda thought he'd probably had about 10-12. He does have a lot of guts to step in the ring with fighters who have very impressive resumes.

About promoters throwing him in the ring, I must admit that I kinda feel the same way, and even mentioned that to him last time I bumped into him. Personally, I'd like to see someone promote him with someone who is to a similiar skill level. I thought that fight with the Japanese world champ shouldn't have happened. I asked him why he took that fight, and Ben said something along the lines of
"I just wanted to test myself, and also said something about him feeling that you can learn much more from such impressive fightersd, then you would from fighting people on the same leve."

That sort of makes sense I guess. But I think that it's also important for fighters to maintain a decent percentage win rate, or otherwise fighters just end up labelled as a journey-man.

I don't know Ben apart from saying hello a few times here and there. If what you say really happened (comments about Behic and Nezif), I think Ben had a momentary lapse of class. Though Memek, the insulting comments about Centrelink and having a beard would probably fall under the same.

Sorry dude. I'm not calling you a liar. But It does sound like you hate him a lot.

i respect all your comments. No theres nothing personal its just that I really dislike fighters who talk it up and have no chance at backing the talk up. And as for the beard, how can you take this guy seriously?

So what do you think of Tony Antoniou?, as Ben Smullins knocked him out earlier this year. Your problem with his beard is the most trivial complaint I've heard in a while, who cares what a fighter looks like, it's a fight not a fashion contest.
Baris Nezif also talks himself up a lot, just remember some of his comments before the Zambidis fight.

Your confusing Ben Smullen with another much heavier fighter.

I think the guy your possibly thinking of is Danny Maksachef, whose probably about 78-80kg. But, I believe that both guys are from the Goulburn Valley, and you may have seen a post on Tarik's forum somehow linking the two geographically (maybe).

If it is Danny, then I'm pretty certain that Scott wasn't knocked out. Scott got up before the end of the count, and gave Maksachef by no means an easy fight.

I like Ben Smullen I first seen him fight on fox and didn't think he had a chance but he is tough and has a huge heart and I hope to see him fight again.

Love him or hate him, Ben Smullens puts in a good effort when he competes. He may not be the most technically gifted fighter, but their has been many a fight ( even on Fox) from top rank pro's who do not give as much as is expected from them in terms of their Drive and motivation when they enter the ring.. At the end of the day Ben "does" entertain us, even sometimes with a smile on his face.

But the reference to the hair on ones face?? Not even gonna go their, as this board is more about " what" fighters do as opposed to if they have shaved this week.. kinda shallow.

Well i think they forgot to tell Jeff Fenech , Shannon Taylor , Tyson, Stan the Man, Greco the late and great Andy Huge and most of the K1 guys and most of all Lewis who all have fought unshaven and with a beard that they have or should not have so much success .
