I just want to publically thank Gurkan for making this last Boxing world title show one of the best ever I have shot at from both a behind the scene perspective and out front by the boxing ring I'm glad I finally got to shoot such a major Australian sporting event. It's not often we get to see a world title in Boxing here in Aus. I'm still surprised that it wasn't held in the U.S.
I so hope I can get similar sort of access for the Kings Cup in Thailand.
Ozkan knew how much it meant to a sports photographer, espescially when you are a freelancer without ties to major agencies. Gurkan went out his way to make sure I'd get a chance to be ringside. I really appreciate it, as it's certainly going to add a lot more prestige to my current sports Portfolio.
Once Ian Sly and myself were in the venue, all the photographers and journo's had already taken up the front row area. Unless the promoter asked someone to vacate a spot, it's usually first in best dressed. So for a bit it looked like we would be moving around the ring and trying to grab shots from behind the front row global photo agency guys. Ozkan saw our situation, and walked us both right around the ring, and asked them politely if they could make room for us. Even approaching the shooters from 'Agence France Press' , ' AAP, 'Reuters' Getty' etc untill he finally found a spot where we could bunch in.
So, thanks Man, you're a top bloke.
Pay no attention to the haters.
