Hi guys,
Tarik Solak announced last night at the Fightforce show in Springvale, that there will be an 8 man K-1 middleweight eliminator on the 'No Respect II' show, Nov 30th. I guess this is the K-1 Max Oceania?
Though, I think I'll let Michael S confirm this. We didn't have a K-1 Heavyweight Oceania this year, instead we just had K-1 Melbourne GP. So, perhaps the format may be different and we see more internationals.
Michael?
Solak told the crowd that the plans for 'No Respect III' are already under way, in which he plans to match the winner of the Ozkan V Zambidis mega fight with an unnamed fighter as yet for the following 'No Respect' show.
Tarik went on to say that he will announce the name of this mystery fighter on the Nov 30th show at Vodaphone arena.
Who is going to win?
Solak says he doesn't know, because this is a match between 'the P4 best kickboxer on the planet', against such a hard hitting Super Middle.
We don't really know if Zam has faced someone whom hits as hard as Gurkan, but to me, I think I am yet to see Michael Zambidis look really hurt. I'm sure he's been hurt, after all he is human I think. But, I've never seen this guy close to looking stunned or rocked by a headshot. Which I'm presuming Gurkan is going to try and deliver hard and plenty. But then again, Gurkan is well capable of freaking us out by doing the absolute unexpected and trying to hurt Zam's legs as he did against Stan. Who would have thought that would be his game plan for facing Stan 'The Man' with his legendary low kicks?.
Certainly not me. I think that most who saw Gurkan's fights with Phil Fagan and Peter Graham, plus the Longinides Vs Graham fight, would have thought like me, that Stan was going to try and kick the legs out from under Gurkan.
Anyway, who the hell could this mystery guy be?
I got to tell you guys. I honestly thought that Gurkan was going to go back and fight heavier, even though I didn't want to see this happen. It's no secret that I'm a huge Ozkan fan, so I'd prefer seeing him concentrate on his real fight weight and fight the guys standing in the way of him going down in History as the best middleweight of his fight generation. Anyway, something was telling me that we were going to end up seeing Gurkan Vs Creco for some strange reason. I guess it was probably the talk of Sam making his comeback, which would no doubt be a big media spectacle, and as we've seen in the past, Gurkan seems to feature in a lot of those. He also once said to me during a conversation where I was telling him that I thought he was better off fighting super-middle, that he did plan to, but that if an offer popped up to fight a big name heavyweight, that he'd certainly consider it. I just got the feeling that perhaps it was Sam that Gurkan meant.
But, it's obviously not Sam now that Tarik is thinking of, as I'm presuming it's got to be someone both these guys can fight. But then again, I wonder if perhaps that is why they will not name this fighter until the Nov 30 show. I was thinking if Ozkan does win, that we would no doubt be totally freaked out by the announcement. Which Ozkan likes to do to us it seems quite regularly.
Ozkan going heavyweight!
Ozkan back to Super-middle weight in six weeks time!
Ozkan to fight Watt!
Ozkan to fight Stan!
Ozkan to fight Zam
Ozkan to fight ????????
All of these were surprise announcements to say the least. Well, they were for me and many of the blokes here. Regardless of what you think of him, over the past 4 years or so, I've seen forum members from various websites who wouldn't give him an ounce of credit, turn around by the time of the Watt fight results. I think these prior dramatic moves have made Ozkan one of the best known Aussie kickboxing names still fighting.
By the way, Tarik did say that this announcement that he will make on that date, will absolutely shock us.
Tibor maybe?
I dunno, anyone want to have a guess?
I'll give a prize of a large 16x12 inch mounted and framed super glossy fight image of your favourite fighter (has to be one of my shots though) to the first person that can pick the mystery guy.
Jacobs perhaps?
Or how about Massato?
I was thinking that way Mike could make right the bad decision in Japan, though not as big deal against Gurkan if he wins.
I mean, I think I'd rather see Ozkan fighting someone natural Super-middle to perhaps Cruiser weight tops.

My guess, and it's a long shot, is that Nezif may make a come back? Very unlikely I know, especially for what a tough fight it would be to face Zam/Ozkan first fight back, let alone at your peak.

Ok, ok. I can appreciate the stupidity of the suggestion. Quite frankly I'd be happy if I got a wooden spoon out of it...

These are the fights I think could be one of them:
Gurkan vs. Ian Jacobs
Gurkan vs. Paul Briggs
Gurkan vs. Sam Greco
Even if any of these fights were not for the No Respect 3, These lines would make any kcikbxoing fan go crazy!

Unless they pay Ian a crapload I doubt he would come back and I also doubt he would fight Gurkan without a warmup fight, its just not his style. As for the Sam V Gurkan i think this is a bad matchup. Sam is a legit heavyweight k-1 fighter and Gurkan is a super middle. Why does he keep having to shoulder the workload for mainevents? Surley we could match Gurkan up with someone his own weight.

If its not a big name like Greco, who could possible be the other fighter that can draw a HUGE crowd in melb?
- Stan Longindis
- Gurkan Ozkan
- Michael Zambidis
- Sam Greco
All fighters mentioned draw HUGE crowds. Can we name any others? If we do come up with some more, the fighters name will surely be a likley match up for No Respect III.
I was thinking John Hallford but his following in melb is negligble. I agree 100% with what Koshy had to say about jumping weight.

Good quiz Paul! Can you throw in the winning ring-card-girl as well to the winner!?
My guess is a long shot and big hopefull - Tibor Vermes
::OR:: perhaps could it be a little less dramatic, and a 'dark horse' import from Greece/Turkey?
::OR:: My big WWE influence here.. Imagine Tarik Solak in the ring, just like Vince McMahon against Hogan ! Promoter vs Fighter !

I think the reason tarik is holding out is because he has 2 fighters in mind and he wants to see who will win.
Ozkan wins - v Tibor Vermes ( No Respect here)
Zambidis wins - v Baris Nezif
You never know, there maybe even a Zambidis vs Masato rematch or a match up with Tibor Vermes. In Gurkans case I would have to say it would be a rematch between him and Ian Jacobs!
Can't wait to see how it all turns out, I must admit that Tarik is starting to get a good theme going here!

Hey guys,
I just yesterday morning for the first time ever saw an Ian Jacobs pre retirement fight. I saw the couple that he had a couple of years ago, but unfortunately I don't think Ian gave it a long enough shot.
Bye the way, thanks lots Janer. I loved the tape, but the second half after Ozkan V Jacobs doesn't work on either of my machines.
Anyway, re Jacobs,
OMG, I had no friggen idea he was that good.
Never in my life would I have imagined he could man handle Gurkan like that.
What a fighter,
I'm sure he's gone on to do good things,
but what a tragedy for Australian Kickboxing that he stopped so early.
Koshy, I totally agree, he'd be silly to step up without some serious rust shaking.
Hehe Hamish, I wish I was so influential.

Hey Paul C - how are you
if you want to see Ian in action - try get a hold of his fight against Manson Gibson - bloody brilliant
also the fight against Kash 'th falsh' Gill was superb - he absolutely kicked the crap out of him, and if you saw how cocky Cash was at the beggining ofthe fight, it just made it even sweeter
well, my views on this, firstly, Baris is definetly out, there is no way he can match it against either Zam or Ozkan, it would be suicide,
Sam Greco - too much of a weight difference,
Ian Jacobs - possibility, but he would want a few warm up fights before hand
Tibor Vermes - would be a great grudge match with Ozkan, however, he has not fought for a long time, Ozkan would waste him, and I am a huge Vermes fan
my more probale tips
Pau Briggs - big bucks offered from Tarik, his comeback to K1, the only negative is I dont believe he would risk his promising boxing career to train for this
Sam Soliman - maybe, as per Paul Briggs
Tosca Petridis - I would love to see him make a return, I'd say he would explode the way Mitch O'thello did agaonst Paul Slowinksi
I'd say it would be risky bringing in a fighter the Melb fans have not heard of
my money at the moment is on Paul Briggs, this would be brilliant!!
come on Tarik - make it happen
by the way Paul - I would like a blow up of myself, in full fight gear wearing a 'g' - pubes and all!!

I forgot to add two more definite possibilities!!!
First - JWP - definelty to be considered
and second
Daniel Dawson comeback - I'm also putting some bucks on Dawson!!

Great guesses guys,
Krama, I think Parr is fighting in the Superleague show in Europe on December 6 or close to that date. The only reason I know this is because I was wondering if Wayne was going to fight in the Kings Cup on Dec 5, and he'd said that he couldn't in another thread. Unless things have changed, I don't think it will be Wayne, though it certainly would be a fight with just as much meaning as a Zam V Massato match.
Dawson a good guess, but I've sort of interpreted 'No Respect 3' kind of as Gurkan and Mike fighting for the right to fight this guy. If this is the case, all I can come up with is either Mr Perfect, Tibor. Or Jacobs.
As Koshy said it would probably take a lot of cash, but I dare to say with such a big event the fighters would possibly be getting closer to what Ian was asking last time I heard.

Hehe, sounds like a great shot in the making Krama.
We'll have to do it.
Actually, I dismissed the Briggs suggestion immediately,
but now after thinking about it, Gurkan is doing a lot of boxing and we've also been speculating on Mike as a boxer. I reckon if it is Paul, that it would probably be a boxing match.

I think it can't be anybody other than Ian Jacobs. He's the only fighter that can match up perfectly well with either guy. Plus, it would be the biggest drawcard, bigger than Tibor Vermes against either of those guys. In my dreams, it would the "Ice" Louie Iosifidis making the comeback, but I'm betting that if the money is right, and I'm sure Tarik Solak will have no problem with this, Ian Jacobs would come back. He said he would, but just for Gurkan Ozkan. I'd imagine he'd change his mind IF Zambidis beat Ozkan. That's a big IF though. Can't wait. Whooooooo-Hoooooooooo!!!!!!!

I hope it's Jacobs,
Remeber guys, there will be a full nine months between 'No Respect' and 'No Respect 2', so perhaps there will be just as much time between 2 and 3 or perhaps even longer. It would give Ian time to have a couple of warm up fights I guess. Also, I think Tarik would probably get better value if he did sign Ian up for a 3 fight deal.
I can't believe the speech Jacobs made after the Ozkan fight. Man, what a gentleman saying that he was prepared to relinquish his title for Gurkan not to retire. And also what he said about Gurkan not attacking his leg. Totally awesome stuff.
The re-match would be so huge I reckon.

More news guys,
I just read on Ax, that the Kiwi's are having their K-1 Max in November also. This time the winner of the N.Z event goes straight to Japan. This will no doubt make room in the Aus K-1 Max for some new fighters. We've read pretty reliable goss on Baris competing in an 8 man. Perhaps we'll also see Serkan and a couple of Qlanders or WA guys.
Dawson would be a cool edition. Though, looks like Parr will miss out if he's fighting in Europe.
I've just realized that I stuffed up in an earlier post regarding Wayne not being the mystery fighter. I wrote that it couldn't be him as he'll be in Europe. He will this year, but not when 'No Respect 3' will be on. So, I guess Parr is a possibility Krama.

Hey Paul,
Just had another thought - Since we are talking about 'comebacks'.. Could I also guess a big hopefull :
Prince Amir vs Zambidis (excusing the weight difference)
Scratching my head here.. considering the words you quoted of Tarik's, that the opponent will 'shock everyone'..
krama
25-08-2003, 03:06 PM
Its the 'shock everyone' statement that really puzzles me - it has to be one the fighters already mentioned for it to have an impact - Jacobs comeback fight perhaps?
Roddy
25-08-2003, 03:07 PM
One thing for sure, it will NOT be Paul Briggs or Sam Soliman. Both are shooting for world honours in boxing, zero chance of a comback to the kicking game, those guys are looking to fight world Top 10 boxers and no one else.
Jacobs, well it would take a mighty big carrot to get him back in the ring, can't see that happening.
JWP sounds about right.

What I'd like to see at No Respect 3 is a dual main event Ozkan Vs Jacobs 2 and Zambidis Vs Prince Amir or John Wayne Parr.
As someone previously said theres no way Paul Briggs is returning to Kickboxing anytime soon with his World Title shot only two fights away in Boxing, also Paul C - Briggs and Ozkan did meet in a Boxing contest a couple of years ago and the Hurricane pounded him for eight rounds and scoring a knockdown in a very one sided fight.
Paul Briggs -> Number One!

Yeah I saw that one Pieman.
It was all Briggs in that fight.

26-08-2003, 10:33 AM
Pieman - my view on The prince fighting ZAM - with all due respect to the price, he was a legend not long ago - but he, well I shouldn't exaclty say struggled, but found it tough going against Behic, and we all know what ZAM did to Behic TWICE!! -
I feel it would be an early night for The prince if he takes on ZAM in the future.

I think the mystery man is Tibor Vermes.
krama
26-08-2003, 02:22 PM
I recall someone mentioned in an earlier thread that Tibor was training hard for a possible comeback in K1 - the problem is he has not fought anyone for at least 2 years due to his cell enclosure, he would have a minimum of at least 5 - 6 fights and win comortably before he can be considered - he would be comfortably smashed by either ZAM of Ozkan if he was to fight them now

NO REPECT 3:: GURKAN OZKAN VS SAM GRECO
MIKE ZAMBIDIS VS IAN JACOBS
sooty
26-08-2003, 09:48 PM
Gurkan vs Sammy.. Thats probably the toughest matchup i have ever seen suggested for Gurkan.
Now on Zam vs jacobs.. No disrespect to Ian as he is a warrior, but. Ian i personally think will/does not have the - 1) Stamina and Endurance to go hard for a full fight ie: 5 to 10 rnds, 2) does not box well, especially in the inside and 3) Zam loves to box "on the inside.
I cannot see Ian hurting Zam with his kicks, as his defense is to good. I do not think that Ian would be considered but it was an interesting matchup and i had to add my 2 bobs worth.
cheers
Mark [aka sooty]
paul c
26-08-2003, 10:29 PM
I agree with all that Mark.
I'd love to see Jacobs back to the fighter he must have been in his prime. I think the Jacobs that fought Gurkan would have made such a brilliant fight against Zambidis. I don't know who would have won, but it would be quite something to see I reckon. Even the power of Ozkan didn't stop Jacobs from non stop being the aggressor.
Re Baris,
I don't think that Tarik would have Zam and Gurkan fight for the right for a match against Baris at this time. I reckon we'll see Baris in the 8 man instead for now. I guess if he won that event that it would all be possible, but for now, I think that it would be more likely Baris having to prove himself for a shot against Zam or Gurkan.
