More leather than a bondage parlor.
More hooks than a pirate convention.
It's goodnight Irene.
God aka Masato
All classics.
Then you have Mike Goldberg....
"he's throwing the right hand like chuck liddel, isn't he joe?"
*epic brawl taking place* "i'd like to take a moment to thank our sponsors..."
Mike Goldberg: “The Lil Eagle soars again”
Joe Rogan: “I think its “Lil Evil, Mike”
Joe Rogan: “Karo is wide open!”
Mike Goldberg: “Diaz smells the opening.”
“Tito taking a book out of chuck’s chapter”
“Matt and Mark Hughes used to pound each other all the time back on their farm”.
Frank Shamrock: “Ohhhh huge knee!”
Mike Goldberg: “Big knee!”
Frank Shamrock: “That was a huge knee!”
Mike Goldberg: “That knee was big!”
“His precision is really precise”
Mike Goldberg: “He’s got him in some kind of strange choke I’ve never seen before!”
Joe Rogan: “That’s a rear naked choke.”
"He's unrelentless!"
"You know Roy Jones Jr. respects the hands of Forrest Griffin."
on Travis Lutter
Goldberg: "He's like the Michael Jordan of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!"
Rogan: "No he's not"
Goldberg: "Exactly right, Joe!"

Unfortunately I had to permanently retire Ray from the forum and throw his account into the 'never to be reopened' bucket. He had trouble adapting to the 21st century.;)

I use to see a "Ray Hadley" and I recall Shiv saying it was 'the man' himself. Was this correct, or a stunt? If it was the man, why was he banned?

funny this thread started i just finshed watching Detonation 4. hammer and shiv have a good laugh at people that bag them on this forum. shiv askes if people are going to bag him can they be at least man enough to put there real names
just because you dont like his commentary style, doesnt mean he isnt a good guy.

I think his commentary is extremely entertaining. The only thing i don't like about Shiv is his last editorial in IK.

For a lot of people it's the type of commentary that they either love, or it just annoys the tits off them... as it can appear a little bit repetitive with the main focus leaning towards an attempt at comedy. Not my own personal cup of tea ....but each to his own!

LOL, Schiv is a great guy and one of those people you like to be around.
I'm not sure what people actually expect when they listen to a commentator. If you want a monologue totally focussed on shot selection and execution then take a listen to Barry Michael on an old Big Time Boxing and I guarantee you'll be asleep by the first ad break.
Schiv/Hammer are extremely knowledgeable in all forms of stand up fighting and very entertaining as well. You need to remember that not all the viewing public are diehard fight fans or practitioners so a little consideration needs to be given. They comment on what they know and maybe you just turn it down a little if it isn't for you.
What actually pissed me off last weekend were the likes of Ian Healy and Eddie McGuire (the most annoying guy on tv) commentating the Masters Golf. Neither knows jack about pro golf yet the average bogan sports or game show fan can relate. Cracked myself up when Healy got in Tiger's way and Tiger asked him who he was then told him to go away to the other side of the rope.

Joe Rogan's commentary is good. He explains the wrestling moves to the public and covers the action well.
The Foxtel guys maybe good guys but they just dribble on with cr@p and their calls about strikes are often wrong.

Being a good bloke doesn't make you a good commentator.

Again, you guys are talking from the perspective of people in the fight game and with no need of any commentary.
Step back for a moment and think how the layperson might look at Muay Thai as elbows fly and blood flows. A little levity and explanation from qualified commentators might annoy some but for many it makes for enjoyable viewing.
You are the master in command of the volume control.

You dont have to have been a fighter to commentate.....many of the best at their jobs may not have had the relevant experience... Some of the VERY best at their chosen sport couldn't / wouldn't do it, same as coaching / training others. Sure it helps, but you don't have to have experienced it to be the best at it...
Fact is, Michael is world renowned, well paid, and gets the best seats in the house, why, cos he is good at what he does.
Some may or may not like his style, but at the end of the day, he is getting paid well to do something HE loves, and importantly what those who pay for his services love.
It's not an easy gig guys, trust me....

There is some gold in there. There is also a lot of crap.
To be honest, I don't mind Rios. I have bantered with him under his various aliases in a lot of other forums and dispite the criticism for the way he writes, it is just the way that he is. He may have got served in this instance, but his knowledge of MMA is as good as any writer, analyst, commentator or forum elitist in the sport.

it is a bit rich all the arguing about Brazilian kicks etc. I remember back in the early 90s learning exactly the kick they were carrying on about in Kyokushin karate so I hardly think anyone 'discovered' it.
Fancy calling anything 'Brazilian' unless of course some rather baldy sorts are throwing them around.
