Put this up as it's own topic to see if anyone has any views on this.
Does steroids give you an advantage in a sport where skill is the determining factor?

Sooty's response from another topic.

everlast,
Interesting question, one of the benifits that can come from steroid use is not just the ability to take more punishment or even be more aggresive, but to be able to train at an intense level day in and day out while still being highly motivated.
One of the differences (my personal view) unlike other sports which do not encompass the attitude of "the Way of the Warrior" is the general attitude of the Bushido Code. This is what seperates our sport / arts from others.

I think what sooty (Mark) is doing here is giving everyone an example of steroid effects on a person whilst training kb/mt or any sport really.
it would be hard to deny that this is a typical case scenario, due to the telltale effects that steroids have on a person.
steroids do have some advantages (size, double the training load and intensity etc) HOWEVER it all comes down to one thing: CHEATING! I personally believe that you are only cheating yourself when it comes to steroids.
Skill has alot to do with kb/mt, and you only have to look at the k-1 or some of the bigger guys in the sport and see what steriod abuse actually does to your ring performance.
whats the point of being the 'big gun' in the ring, and you fight like a bag of s.hit and get tagged alot?? Perosnally, i would rather see the lighter guys go at it rather than overized clowns who dont know how to fight.

Everlast,
Im not too sure why you pulled out sooty's response on this topic; maybe you dont agree, but it is good to keep this topic alive due to the mess the sport can get in with the issues that affect our sport..

I agree that this could cause the sport to get into a mess - i put sooty's response in there to get the ball rolling. Personally i think that a skillful fight like jwp will still beat a lesser fighter on roids.
I beleive that steroids can give an advantage in power and training endurance - but if the heart is not in it - the mind will let the steroid user down. Like bullet said it's like cheating yourself.
Also bullet about the lighter guys - taking steroids doesn't have to mean your heavy - e.g. a lighter guy with the build of zambidis might raise questions ( for the record i beleive he is naturally built)
