That Youtube clip was uploaded 3 years ago, but the original clip has been around a lot longer than that. A lot of the comments on the Youtube clip bag Andre for his pad holding. I have always thought the opposite - Andre was just doing freeform padwork, but it was Remy's sloppy hands that made the whole session look ordinary. The first 15 seconds have Remy missing shots with his hands, and throwing hooks instead of jabs/crosses.

In terms of holding for a kickboxer I can't really comment and there are guys here who could provide some good insight.
But in boxing there are many techniques and styles. All the great pad holders have different styles, doesn't mean any one is better than the other. What I can't stand is the flashy crap of holders going and catching the punches to make their fighter look better. Your opponents does't thrust his chin at your glove, so neither should the pad holder.
Speaking of bad I saw yesterday a "trainer" beat the living **** out of one of his students in a "sparring" session. Guess he wanted to feel good about himself, so he picked a guy 20kg lighter and put no head gear on the bloke. Disgraceful.....

I think Remy was the problem, not the pads.

Sometimes catching with the focus pads is good for the boxer. It gives them more resistance, and teaches them to "dig" that little bit more. One pro boxer I know attributes this to increasing his punching power.
Holding pads is an artform and I could watch a good pad workout all day. Whenever I am back of house on a fight night I always have a sneaky look at trainers and watch them warm up their fighters.

That is Andre Mannart legendary trainer of among many others Peter Aerts. No questioning his training methods or his skills as a pad man
Remy looked like a raw beginner(when it came to hands only) but perhaps he was new to training with Andre
