hey guys just a thought out of the blue but has 2 vs 2 match's ever been done by any promoters before?
i know that mma is not fake like the wwe and there are real risks involved but i could see alot of money being made of a pay per view for that type of event. perhaps its straying away from sport and more towards a bloodsport so i expect the human cockfighting argument to be made against it but it would still be awesome to watch.
does anyone know the legality of much a thing in Australia or abroad?

I'll put my hand up for it..., if I can bring a 6 shooter!
I personally think something like this would be a disaster for a million and one reasons. What is stopping one fighter from holding the arms of another while his team mate kicks the fellas jaw in. The danger of it would be ridiculous, if I want to see someone get ganged up on and king hit I can go to the local pub. I dont want to see something like this which would just bring massive amounts of negative pubblicity to the fight game. You loose the true one on one contest that fight sports are supposed to be about. You would end up with lemon fighters who cant make it in the real game signing up for it. Which would give shonky fights and greater risk of injury.
Sorry but stuff like this is just stupid, IMO.
What is wrong with a good ole fashion Muay Thai war. If that isnt enough for you then I'd say you're not watching the good fighters....
If fighters cant get the job done with the kicks, knees, elbows and fists then they probably need to go back to the basics and start again rather looking for a mate to join them in the ring.

Gangwars in a ring would do nothing good for the image of fighting as a sport in general.

chicano while i do agree with some of what you just said including the negative publicity from the main stream media and likelihood for injury in much a match up if the wrong rules were to be enforced i do believe it is something that many people would pay to see.
although i do love my muay thai alot and would not give it up for anything, my view of it and modern mma matches such as in the ufc is that it just lacks much of the realism i think a fight has. with the inclusion of many of the rules and has been watered down to a sport rather then a fight (just wish to note i mean no disrespect to either muay thai or mma but its just my view even though like i said i love muay thai and do it myself.) while i do understand that many of the rules are included for fighter safety and marketing purposes to gear it towards a larger mainstream audience i do feel that the modern fight sports are a tad restricted. dont get me wrong i agree with the rules because they make the fights safe as possible for the fighters. but just to get the a little more interesting maybe the 2 v 2 at the very least it will add another dimension to the fighting styles and tactics of a fight while making it more 'real'. given the introduction of proper rules to protect fighters i think it could be very successful
maybe i am just being a little bit silly and should turn the wrestling back on haha

yeh mann i dont really think it could ever be done. i dont think you can say that muay thai has lost anything. or restricted as you said.. i mean you can still do downward striking elbows in muay thai (not in the UFC) .. people think MMA is already way to violent.. if there was 2 on 2 there would probably be alot more blood.. alot more knockouts and total madness... i say leave everything as is..
you also said that it has changed from being a fight to a sport.. muay thai and mma are sports.. yeh you fight. but it is a sport and its about competition, its not about really trying to hurt someone TOO much .. but if winning means that someone gets KOd then so be it.

its a logistical nightmare. What happens when one fighter gets knocked out? Do the two remaining fighters from the oppposite team have permission to gang up on the other remaining fighter.? And besides, i do muay thai as a sport, not because i like people getting hurt.(although it happens). If you want to see unrestricted violence involving groups of people try YOUTUBE.. Or friday night NRL..:)

Not 2 V 2 but Fightforce Promotions (Michael & Con Vukovic) 6 months ago did a tag team (Aus v NZ), and I was sceptcial about it bit it went off, and the crowds loved it.
There just seemed to be confusion that when one tagged out, the opponent then immediatly ran to the corner and then tagged out, (95% of the time), rather than stay in if feeling ok.
Whilst it wasn't traditional with what is associated with the sport, as a spectacle it was just that... I wouldn't want to see it regularly but on the odd show it is something different.
I think as a spectacle I'd rather see tag team FTR on EVO than 1 x MMA fight... food for thought

They have been doing it for years in a a few Japanese promotions. ZST and DEEP do them.

Tag Team MMA has been going on for ages.
They usually do it in a Country vs Country set up, with two guys from each country fighting. There is only ever a 1-vs-1 in the ring setup, but you can tag in your team-mate usually a max of once a round.
They started doing this for real on early 90's European and Japanese MMA shows, about the time the UFC was started in America. These fights are still held all around the world & are actually most popular around the Arab regions (Saudi/UAE/etc...).
Aussie MMA fighters like James TeHuna have fought over in the UAE in tag-team MMA fights, against Russian and European teams. You wont find these bouts in anyone's record though, as the tag-team bouts are not added to anyone's pro-record. The fights are not works, though. They are the real deal MMA - knockouts, subs & all.
