I have a group on Facebook to support fighters and this is what some guy posted!!!

In case anyone wants to question my credentials for writing this; I was an 8 year wrestler, former corporal in the marines, football (fullback) my whole life, martial arts for 3 years, 6 years of studying exercise science, and currently a personal trainer on a military base.
These combat sports do nothing but show that people are regressing to the days of gladiators and failing to move on to bigger and better things. If violence isn’t necessary, there's no need for it. This is 2010, not Ancient Rome lol. #20 is for you ladies, lol.
1. Look it up, "martial arts" means "arts of war". Can someone tell me why "arts of war" are being taught to people who aren’t in war? These fighters call themselves "warriors", and that’s funny because warriors are currently in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting and killing (and I thought this stuff wasn’t about fighting, so why do they call themselves warriors? lol). I fought in Afghanistan for 2 years; I did real fighting for real reasons, for real purposes. What is the purpose and reasoning to sticking two people in a cage or ring and fighting? There is none. It’s pure entertainment. Sure many marines and soldiers love that stuff, but then again many of them join the military because they think it’s bad a$$.
2. So you say it’s about self defense? Sure, if all you're doing is learning it. But competing it has nothing to do with self defense, competing is pure entertainment (just like NFL, MLB, NHL, etc). Let’s analyze street fighting: How often does someone on the streets get choked out? Arm barred? Kicked? Elbowed? Leg break? You never see that on the streets! Thus, stuff like kickboxing, grappling, jiu jitsu and most of mma/judo/tkd/karate are quite worthless. Fact is, most people on the streets aren’t trained. They don’t know how to throw a punch to knock you out. Also, if you truly want to learn self-defense, you’d be taking Krav Maga, not these nonsense things you see on TV. And if you truly wanted to learn self-defense, you wouldn’t be competing either.
3. The sad thing with people is, they believe everything they hear. Most people who do it or watch it did it because a "friend" got them involved. Anyone with a brain would take one look at it and go "umm, why are these guys fighting, that’s stupid". It’s like drinking, most people never wanted to start drinking, but then a "friend" pushed you, and now you love it. People really need to learn to start thinking for themselves, to use common sense, and use their brain. Just be a little stubborn and remind yourself that violence isn’t justified or necessary. “Thinking” is not illegal lol.
4. The real martial arts don’t involve gloves, blood, cages or rings, a doctor on the side, fans in the stands. It was originally developed to teach soldiers how to defend themselves and fight in battle, not take to a ring or cage and fight for entertainment. What your instructors tell you is pure brainwashing. Think about it, if instructors admitted these sports were pure violence, it’d get banned in a second. So they have to say it’s about discipline, control, respect, scoring points, etc (which are things you can learn in ANY sport lol). And this whole mma stuff is a scam, there is no such thing as mma. It was made to get people to fight, end of story. Yes, martial arts is an ART, but what you see nowadays (and on TV) isn’t art. Some say it’s about learning others weaknesses and strengths; I laughed so hard when I heard that, because EVERY sport is about learning the other team or players weaknesses and strengths lol.
5. They call it "fighting" for a reason. They call them "fighters" for a reason. They call it "fights" for a reason. Yes, it’s definitely not about fighting lol. What do runners do? They run. What do wrestlers do? They wrestle. What do swimmers do? They swim. What do fighters do? They FIGHT.
6. There's a reason why most medical associations and doctors speak against the sports (keyword: most). Sure, there are some docs who enjoy it (typically the younger ones), but most don’t. Even the ringside doctors know it’s unsafe, they just enjoy the money they’re given to watch over it. I'd rather trust someone who went to school for 15 years to learn about the human body, than someone who’s a blood thirsty freak.
7. Some people say that fighting is human nature. They compare these sports to the days of Roman gladiators, where people killed each other (great comparison). Roman gladiators didn’t fight for so-called discipline, control, balance, self discovery (which combat sports claim they’re about) so why are they comparing it to gladiator days then? I thought this stuff wasn’t about fighting?! This is 2010, its time to move on to bigger and better things lol. I mean, do you not have anything better to do with your life than fight or watch fighting? Pretty sad.
8. You see it on the TV commercials, radio commercials, ads online. They always describe this stuff as "come see the bloody, face pounding, bone crushing, brawling, etc etc"....again, I thought this stuff wasn’t about fighting?! Why do fighters stare each other down in the ring/cage? I thought it was about respect?! How come sometimes when one fighter is obviously out, the other fighter continuously punches and punches? I thought it was about controlling yourself?! Instructors say it’s about respect because you're respectful enough not to kill the other person....wow, how brainwashing. But why fight in the first place? Lol.
9. Do you honestly think in this day in age with how people are, that people truly do these sports (or watch them) for any other reason besides "i wanna whoop someone"? Who watches and does these sports by the way? The majority of people who watch or do it are young people, bar hoppers, partiers, wild drunks, people in the country, wannabe tough guys or military. Doesn’t that tell you something? Why do the fans cheer so loud when one fighter is getting beat down badly, yet when the two are standing and staring, you hear nothing? Because the fans want to see brutality, someone get F'ed up lol. Why doesn’t judo, tkd, kickboxing, grappling, etc not have their own big leagues like ufc that are watched by a million people (which by the way, more people watch GOLF lol)? Because those sports aren’t complete brutality. Fans want to see blood, someone knocked out. So when a fighter raises his hands in joy at the fans after winning, he's telling them "yes, we're only here to beat people up" lol (because that’s what 95% of fans are cheering for).
10. In most sports, head hits are banned. Yet in these sports, where you usually see someone aiming for your head, they allow it? They say the gloves and head gear provide protection but that’s BS. The gloves just mean that you can hit harder. Sometimes in the amateur leagues they wear head gear and leg padding, but you still see knockouts so thus, the head gear isn’t providing protection obviously. I laugh hysterically when people say it’s a gentleman sport. If these people were ‘gentlemen’, they wouldn’t be fighting in the first place.
