Besides being fit and your trainer having you ready, what else is required to fight at this level. ie blood test ect

And I would gather it would be modified, also with that is each state different in terms of wearing head gear, shin pads 14onz gloves ect could some give me some info on this please, or none of the above.:)
Thanks guys

For Victoria;

All full-contact KB, MT & MMA fighters MUST have the relevant blood tests and fitness tests done.

You have got the following options for Kickboxing & Muaythai;

1) Fully-padded novice bouts (headgear, body protector, shinguards)
2) Novice bouts (headgear & shin guards)
3) Professional Amateur Stage 1 (Shinguards for first 5 fights, 3, 4 or 5 2 minute rounds)
4) Professional Amateur Stage 2 (No shin guards, 3, 4 or 5 x 2 minute rounds)
5) Professional (No shinguards, 5 x 3 minute rounds

For MMA (depending on the sanctioning body);

1) Novice (shinguards, no punches to head whilst standing or grounded)
2) Amatuer (No shinguards, all strikes bar elbows)
3) Pro (No shinguards, all strikes including elbows)

And again, there are variations to each.

This is only my interpretation of the various ways the sport can be competed in. They can be altered by the promoter in conjunction with the Martial Arts Board. ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS make sure you & your camp understand the rules & conditions you are competing under, and double-check and get it on paper with the promoter, so no unfortunate mis-understandings happen on fight night...

I believe S.A you must compete in headgear up until you have had a successful MRI done on your head. As with Victoria, all relevant bloods and medicals must be up to date.

Thats a good question and i amsure you will get a lot of different answers. As an amateur in qld its pretty much a matter of get fit, train hard, organise the fight(or even just show up on the day as is the case with jwp amateur tournaments), agree on rules and or padding, jump in and go for it. Having said that most am tournaments(as is jwp tourneys) are very proffessionally run with proper referees, judges and medical staff on hand. I can only speak for what i have seen in qld though, other states are different i believe.

Think they have actually reduced it down to 3 fights with the shinguards Mat. Or at least thats what the board told me.

This is the case. Lot of effort and money involved in this. Sure it's there for fighter safety, but a real pain for promoters.

Good run down though Mat!

Nah mate, you wouldn't have to wear shin guards. IMO, all fights you have, regardless if they are boxing, kickboxing or muaythai; whether they were fought in Australia, or overseas, should be divulged to the matchmaker. Too many people 'hide' their true experience, especially a few people that go to Thailand, rack up a heap of fights, and come back to Australia with 'no experience.'

The only problem with the first few fights, if one competitor wants to wear shin guards, then you BOTH must wear shin guards. Like I said before, make sure you & the competitor are 100% on the rules & conditions.

This is one thing I can't agree on enough! Make sure trainers, fighters & promoter are all in agreeance, saves hassles & embarrassment later.
