Just taking the time to let you all know that Faisal Zakaria is the new WBC hevayweight International Champion -
Faisal fought Riccardo Van den Boss ( two time champion of this belt ) in Pataya ( battle at the BEach ) on Jan 2nd - Faisal had an increidble fought, controlled, kneed and clinched his way to win all five rounds to take the WBC Internatioanl HW title !
We are stoaked and could not have asked for a better start to the year 2010 -
thanks -

Isn't Ricardo Van Den Boss the bloke that pulled out of the fight with Slowinski in the final of the 8-man a few years ago?

Yep that's the same Ricardo.
Perhaps Faisal might come back to Aus and put his belt on the line against Andre, or better, put him in with Sting and put his WMC World title up for grabs, have both up for grabs...(not that WMC & WBC would co sanction)
Either way, against either of those to guys, (or Guv or Thor) I think the Green belt would make it's home over here....

I don't think Faisal would stand much of a chance with any of the top heavies here though. Would love to see a rematch with andre, and i heard that faisal is hanging for one too.

I am so dissapointed at the apparent lack of respect in the posts above -
Faisal fought and won the WBC International HW title against Riccardo - who had successfully defended it twice previously but not this time as was up against Faisal, an experienced and skilled muaythai fighter -
It will be up to us I think, who, when and where he defends the title - it won't be in a hurry and it won't neccesarily be in Australia as it seems you all wish! we will see!
No idea if it was Riccardo who pulled out against Paul, don't know and don't care!
Riccardo is a good fighter with a good name! - ofcourse he is still fighting - defending what used to be his title and also has I think' won his last three fights in the last year - not sure who against or where they were! don't care!
rematch with Andre' been offered to us and turned down - got better things to do with our time at the moment perhaps - perhaps even a world title in US later in the year that we are working toward -
Faisal would have as much chance against the Australian Heavyweights as any other fighter skilled enough to be the WBC International Champion - come on - don't be so sure!
Let's leave it at that and if your going to bother posting something - keep it repsectful PLEASE!
thanks Caitalin

Congrats to Faisal
he & Sting couldn't put both their titles on the line, as they're different "levels"... International is not the same as World
in my opinion, Ricardo is nothing & why didn't they fight at Rajadamnern?

Good to hear Faisal got the belt he was after. Always nice to hear about the good guys of the sport winning titles.
I hadn't heard of Ricardo fighting for a number of years after the Adelaide disaster (he threw in the towel 1 second in to the opening round of a fight against Slowinski, just so he could collect a pay day), until i read he beat a Polish guy (not Slowinski) for a WBC heavyweight title in late 2008.
The win should put Faisal just in, or on the cusp of the top-10 WBC heavies in the world, now. There's some interesting bouts for him, there, with guys like Kemayo/Hron/Karacs/Douwes/Bajrami. Maybe even the chance of a crack at the WBC World title, down the line?

I don't see where the disrespect was Caitalin. Just because i think our top heavies here are better than Faisal doesn't mean any disrespect at all. And from what i seen of Van den Bos, i didn't really think much of him.

I think you will find it had less to do with Ricardo and more to do with his trainer...but let's not go back to that outrage.
What exactly is the 'International' title? Anyone?

Wow this was an epic battle of the highest quality.
No wonder you now got better things to do with your time even a world title in US later in the year that you are working toward.
Congrats.

It looks like Faisal is doing less fancy stuff than previous fights and sticking more to basic techniques which seems to have worked well for him.
