Hi all, I hope everyone enjoyed their Xmas and a happy new year to all forum members.
The next show will be at Hurstville Civic Centre on Friday 26th February and due to the new NSW Combat Authority Legislation it will be a Pro/Am event. This event will see all amateurs wearing headguards and shin pads but all professionals irrespective of how many fights they have had will not be wearing padding. The Combat Authority will only accept registered fighters, trainers and officials in laymen terms this means if you would like to fight without any padding be it male or female you must register with the Government and your trainer. I have had numerous discussions with the Combat Authority personnel and this is it no exceptions. All weigh-ins and medical clearances for the professional fighter's will be conducted via the Combat Authority and all fighter's to be contracted to the Promoter of the event.

Good luck JNI.

With the summer shutdown, yours will be the first show in Sydney for the new year.
There will be two other shows that weekend, so busy for the Combat Sports Authority if they are going to be in attendance at all Boxing/Kickboxing/MuayThai/MMA bouts. Wait and see whether they have enough staff. One interesting thing that comes up about headgear and shinguards, is who supplies them. If it is the promoter, there is a cost. In the previous era, I saw some fighters wear there own shinpads, and some promoters supplied them.

Has the CSA outlined what type/brand/weight of headgear and shinpads are to be worn? Did they do any testing on products? You would think that if they are going to bring in legislation, they would test/sponsor the equipment they say must be worn.

Does anyone know whether there are "Australian Standards" for fight gear - gloves, headgear and shinpads? I know with gloves, we talk in 8oz, 10oz and 16oz, but I have never heard of "testing" of gloves to an industry standard.

Near enough is good enough with a little bit of she'll be right attitude in this legislation. Can't wait to see the amateur MMA fights with headgear.

Back on subject, do have you any fighters lined up?

You have alot of valid points Steve and I believe there will be alot of teething problems no doubt but at this stage I will be telling the fighter's to provide their own gear and one more thing all amateurs are to be in 10 oz gloves and I'm pretty sure that covers the MMA amateurs as well

I wonder if this is a going to be a little of 'Back to the Future'...where the legit promoters work with the authorities to do the right thing and then others completely ignore it.

Interesting however is that one or two of these guys seem to have gone out of business in 2009 so hopefully the transition to the CSA guidelines is a fast and smooth one.

For a return to business as usual it seems a pretty easy decision for all serious fighters to register themselves if this does not involve significant cost.

This should be interesting.

Does his name sound like Bumble? If he wants a warm-up match, he could call Hammerfist.... All seriousness though, would be good to see him back.

Something like that Steve P :P

Hammerfist is booked for the next 6 months I hear, JWP's got him on a tour....

Yeh, had a couple of good muay thai come back fights last year, one of those for a win against Eric Nosa and just got caught up in the last few months of the year. Seems to be really focussed, motivated and dedicated at the moment. Can't wait till my injury heals up so he can smack me around in sparring again :D

Who’s Sandy Furner fighting?

J.N.I
05-02-2010, 05:06 PM
Hi Anita at the moment Sandy is proving very hard to match. Out of all the female fighters I have had dealings with Sandy is by far the easiest and most professional girl to deal with, she has never knocked back a challenge or any fights for that matter and has beaten women almost half her age (sh#t why did I have to say that). She puts in 100% all the time every time and it shows every time she fights mmmm maybe a good write up for IK mag to do.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fighters and trainers supporting this show as it is my first show for the year under the new Combat Sports Authority Regulations. For all those who decided not to support me because of the new Combat Sports Authority Regulations well done you have really shown that you are passionate about the sport and care about your fighters "NOT" whether or not we agree with the new Legislation or not what do we do, just forget about our sport all together. I for one do not agree with many aspects of the legislation but I have to try and do my best to work with it, so do not hold back your fighters, there are many people I know working on this right now to make it work better for all involved.

Hope Sniper has brushed up on his ground skills??

Sorry TrentG81 Sniper is not fighting Adriano now as Sniper's trainer decided against it as they had a better offer. Rest of the card looking strong and with the first show here in Sydney under the new Combat Sports Authority it will really be testing the waters.

Go Alan 'The Animal' Walkinton!!

humble
27-02-2010, 11:04 AM
Alan is a tough dude but took way too much punishment. Charlie shone last night.

Jeff Llanes let slip the victory over Wayne who also took a beating to that front leg. Tough campaigners both of them.

Liam vs Carl Redenbach
Fairly even exchange of punches and kicks. Both boys traded and took shots well. Unfortunately for Liam, he suffered a shin split Doctor stoppage and Carl declared winner.

Luis Foote vs Andy Minnet
With a large crowd backing, Luis was just a little too strong, advanced and took the fight to Andy. Andy to his credit lasted the whole bout but Luis was enjoying all his support as he easily carried home the victory on points.

Ahmed Azzoum vs Brendan Gardener
What an exciting fight from the young lads. Ahmed showed superior technicality, speed, power and ring craft. For such a young and inexperienced fighter he could have had us all fooled as being very seasoned. He moved well, had good boxing and kicking. A little too much for Brendan to handle. Azzoum on points. Fight was dedicated to his brother who passed away.

Suzanne Geis vs Monique Tucker
Suzanne could easily mislead one to believe she wasn’t a fighter at all. Tall and stringy though, she has the perfect physique suited to fighting.
She used her jab and reach the whole fight to her advantage. Mostly on the back foot she still countered well against a forward pushing and tough Monique. Unfortunately for Monique the reach was the determining factor as she found it hard to come in on the inside without being tagged by a jab or cross from Suzanne. Suzanne for the win on points

Drew McCabe vs Chris Skaros
Very Close fight with Drew throwing strong effective strikes but Chris a little busier. The fight could have gone either way but a slight advantage on split points to Chris saw his hand raised.

Rustan Attai vs Sam Blundell
Rustan came out with a few thundering leg kicks. Sam tried to counter with hands but Rustan was a little too evasive. Somewhat playful with his antics, Rustan had his hands down at times but was a little too fast for Sam and ended up kicking him one too many times on his left leg, one of those shots hurting his knee forcing Sam not to come out for the second round. Rustan by stoppage due to injury.

Jay Habib vs Clint Taylor
Jay came forcefully forward catching Clint with a few body shots which made clint wince and take a count on one occasion. Jay continued forward and scored a second knock down with a knee to the body which Clint couldn’t beat the count of. Jay by technical knockout.

Wayne Martin vs Jeff Llanes
Jeff came out blazing with kicks in the first round. He found his mark on Waynes left outside thigh who kept coming forward. Wayne had the upper hand in the grapple and punching department though.
Second round saw Wayne figure Jeff out more as he kept closing the gap, initiating the grapple and winning in the punching department but Jeffs leg kicks were taking a big toll on Wayne as he occasionally buckled when Jeff would kick a now tender leg. Very close round possibly Jeff slightly taking it due to effective leg kicks which had a very visible effect.
Rounds three to five saw Wayne find his composure and begin to pick Jeff off very easily. Initiating the grapple, staying light on the front foot and making Jeff miss repeatedly, punching well and even throwing better kicks of his own saw Wayne comfortably take the fight.
Unfortunate for Jeff but very impressive win for Wayne who took serious punishment but showed resolve to fight on and win easily.

Alan Walkington vs Charlie Bechwaty
Had to be fight of the night!
Alan is as cool and calm as they get. His demeanor can be very misleading but he’s certainly a very tough campaigner! Charlie was having none of it though as he teed off from the get go on Alan. Charlie simply outworked him in every aspect even whilst on the back foot most of the fight. Charlie’s switch kick was a sight to watch as he let it unload non stop on Alan’s rib cage and arms. Every round Charlie seemed to step it up and never lose focus or energy. Superb conditioning, excellent technique and enough tenacity to do it over twice. A deserved win to Charlie who didn’t give Alan a chance. Hats off to Alan though, very tough campaigner and lasted through a lot of kicking punishment.

David Brooksbanks vs Pat Empiegne
Pat proved a little too fast and knowledgeable as the fight went to the ground pretty quick and Pat outwrestled and grappled David. Finally getting the mount and punching away to a non answering David the referee stopped the fight.
Pat winner by stoppage.

Steve Ma vs Livi Oloapu
Livi opened up the fight by landing a vicious knee to Steves forhead/nose which cut Steve fairly badly. Blood trickled everywhere but the doctor deemed it ok to continue on. Livi continued the first round picking his shots.
Second round, Steve’s corner did well to stop the bleeding and it seemed he was unfazed as he found his mark on an unresponsive Livi. He continued so in round three to steal the win away from Livi. Steve on points

Jared Riley vs Steve Samrani
Jared wasted no time taking the fight to the ground. Steve tried as he may but couldn’t get Jared off him. Second and third rounds were pretty much the same with Jared getting the take downs, being busier on the ground and staying on top.

Jared for the win on points
