07-01-2010, 06:15 AM
charles was never matched to fight gaz on this show , but the fight will happen this year and yes it will be agreat fight,
Didn't know Johann Voss was up to Kym's level experience wise or has a natural fight weight at 70/72kg. Will be interesting to see how that goes.
Richie
07-01-2010, 01:58 PM
With all due respect Tom in my IMHO Yohan Voss isn't up to Kym's level. Good on him for stepping up and all the best to him but the skill and experience difference is too great, I'd predict a second or third round stoppage to Kym, he really is the business.
Riker
07-01-2010, 04:56 PM
from what I know he holds a NZ title and has similar record to Kyms with both having 15-20 fights. Glad to hear people think highly of Kym but we dont take any fight lightly and are training hard already. With Kym coming back injury, this will be his first one back in 6 months after winning the oz title so I hope he lives up to the expectations.
Richie
08-01-2010, 07:38 AM
It will be a good warm up fight for Kym if he is coming back from injury. Is this 5x3 or 5x 2? Cheers

I'd fear fighting Alan Wong way more than the others. A loss against him in the ring (assuming you can cut to midget-weight to fight him) would also = the verbal spanking of a lifetime in here & every other forum on the web. :)
I am really looking forward to having local lads Kym Johnson and Myles Simpson back on KOF after both having a short break.

Once you've had 5 fights you gotta start looking at interstate opponents every time, after 10 its international, who can you see yourself fighting against this year Anita? Make it easier for the promoters.

LOVE fighting interstate too btw…doesn’t matter where really, just wish I could be here this night! Not the first time I have missed a local show to fight interstate they always clash!

Different crowd & fan base. MMA crowds / customer base differ from MT/Kickboxing. Customer base for MT/Kickboxing shows are similar to AFL/NRL crowds, with families & women making up almost 40% + of the audience at times. MMA crowds in Australia are heavily dominated by young professional males 20-28yrs old, who have higher education & more $$$ to spend on tickets, because they predominantly don't drink or smoke.
Although the fans of each sport are slowly crossing together and attending each others events, for the most part, MMA crowds don't attend MT/kickboxing shows because of the limited complexity of the action & the MT/kickboxing crowds don't attend the MMA events because they don't understand the complex nature of the action.
Things are changing though & as MMA continues to streak ahead of MT/Kickboxing in Australia, you'll find that both sports actually benefit from it in the long term. The MT/kickboxing shows will see more people coming as fans of the striking from MMA find out about their local shows & MMA events will pull in the numbers from MT/Kickboxing shows as the MT/kickboxing fans follow the strikers in MMA. As the education barriers and stereotypes are broken down amongst followers (and the media) of both sports, each sport will begin to benefit from the other. Australia seems to be on a good path with both sports, (unlike many other countries where one is alive & the other virtually dead) as each sport can flourish and grow with the other - not despite the other.

Cheers for the reply Adam, was interesting to hear the different cross sections if true.
Where did you get this market analysis information?
I note you mentioned MMA crowds..... this could be a different kettle of fish relative to the UFC. Or are you basing the MMA analysis on the statistics coming out of the US pertaining to the ufc, that Joe Rogan seems to mention when talking about Spike Tv's ratings?
Cheers

I did my Thesis a few years ago on the business & event management side of Mixed Martial Arts in Australia. Within that research, was socio/eco data gathered from people who attended MMA, MT/Kickboxing & Grappling events. As well as those who attended events that were a mix of two of those three (Like the Xplosion promotion in Queensland).
The aim was to get some actual data with real value, to managers and promoters of emerging MMA shows - to help understand who attends their events, why they attend & how to maintain and boost crowd numbers going forwards. In the end though, i actually ended up having the same data and information for MT/Kickboxing shows & grappling events, too, because i was not aware of how much cross-attendance there was between the sports. I went in to the study not realizing that the Aussie sport community cross-trains and cross-attends so much.
