A BOXER from TV series The Contender has been arrested and charged with sexual assault.
Sonni Michael Angelo, better known as Jungle Boy on the Foxtel reality show, was charged with aggravated sexual assault and inflicting actual bodily harm on another person.
Sonni lost his fight on the pre-recorded show last Monday night and producers and station management must decide if he will be part of the final episode which is supposed to feature all of the 14 boxers on January 14.
Surry Hills police will allege Sonni had sexual intercourse with an adult female victim without her consent. They will also allege he caused actual bodily harm to Amir Ibrahim. Bail was initially refused on December 10 because of the seriousness of the offence.
On December 11, he appeared at Central Local Court before he was granted bail on certain conditions. Sonni must reside at his home address and report daily to Eastwood police, he must not approach Ibrahim or the alleged victim of the sexual assault, and he must stay within the Sydney area.
A spokesman for Foxtel said the network was aware of the charges and would make a decision in the new year on whether Sonni will appear on the final show, which is being shown live.
- Wait and see, I guess.

He came across like a nut case in the show so obviously he wasn't acting.
There was a big difference between the Muay Thai boys compared to the Boxing boys behavior. Definitely a bit more control of the ego from the MT mob. (excluding Rafik of coarse)
Who do you think carries on the most our Aussie boxing Contenders of the UFC boys, either way they make the Muay Thai Contenders look good.

Quite intelligent pick up. MMA via UFC has become "trendy" through the reality TV network, however the antics of the fighters leaves a lot to be desired. If you were the owner of a major brand, you probably wouldn't find the guys that marketable as before too long you could be embarassed to be associated with them (like Nike and Tiger Woods).
One fellow that I noticed as a standout on the Contender Asia as being cautious of how the sport was portrayed, so as to not bring it into disrepute was Soren. If we can continue to ride the reality TV train, and be humble like Soren, we could well win the race.

IMO i think most martial artists from all backgrouds conduct themselves better than boxers, boxers gotta have that tuff, dont take **** from no1 attitude -
look @ guys like Australias number 1 taekwondo practioner Brendan foster, the most humble person you can meet...but one of the most dangerous...
IMO its because with muay thai and other martial arts you are tought respect when you enter a dojo or gym..
Plus boxers need to be cocky & agro so they can sell tickets to there fights...
Look @ press conferences and weigh ins for most boxing matches, there close to being in punchups all the time ... "ill eat his Children" dis dat....
Kostya Tszyu was one of the only boxers i can remember that was humble....
with T.U.F tv series its a show and they need ratings or else it crashes, so behavior in that house is meant for it, thats why dana puts alcahol in there 4 them

I'm curious, what's the difference between aggravated sexual assault and **** ?
Let's all keep in mind these crimes have been 'allegedly' committed. Let the man have his day in court.

Difference is everyday usage and the actual crime he is charged with. An example being burglary is everyday usage and break, enter and steal is the crime in the act. R-A-P-E (so filter doesn't block me) and Sexual Assault = same thing.

"Aggravation" could mean victim is under 16, it was done after a break-in, in company with another, or at the time actual bodily harm (or greater) was inflicted on the victim.
Agreed though, let him have his day in court, and not jump to conclusions. Others have gone before the courts, and been innocent (and not just getting off on technical grounds). The one that stands out in my mind is Frank Alan Button, who got the worst nightmare possible.

Hey I can say that I have met some great people through boxing, Muay Thai and other martial arts. In saying that there are crazy, ignorant guys in all of these also. Wouldnt necessarily say MT guys carry themselves so much better, its all individual. And with reference to the Contender Asia vs Tuf series, I would say the major difference is that TUF is a house full of americans (mostly), what a nightmare that would be.

The amazing thing with the UFC and TUF series is "THAT" according to Dana White with the series 1 finale fight between Boonar & Forrest has made the UFC into what it is today!!!
And I'm guessing he will keep it going - unfortunately IF you watched TUF 10 with the heavyweights it was horrendously boring but had Kimbo which in itself drew amazing viewer numbers - over 6 million I believe!!
SMA is obviously troubled - as was evidenced by his time on TV.
I believe IF he is found guilty - after he serves his time here, it will be back on the plane to the Congo!!
Where I work - it happens with juveniles on serious charges majority of the time!!!

It appears Mr SMA has had the benefit of the doubt before, and done time in jail previously for aggravated sexual assault.
I guess a leopard doesn't change it's spots.

Tiger has made golf more interesting and his shagging was consensual so comparing that to assault is apples and oranges.

But first article said Surry Hills police will allege Sonni had sexual intercourse with an adult female victim without her consent.
I know people who know Sonni very well and yes, he is troubled and has many issues but deep down is a very nice soul. I mean he bawled his eyes out when Junior had to leave the show which was in complete contrast to his aggression towards him earlier in the same series. Three guesses what does that to an individual, ie highs and lows. Taking that into account, one could understand him a little more and why he acted that way.
As mentioned, lets see what the courts have to say.

hahahah 100% agree! The difference between most TUF contestants and the Muay Thai contender is you mostly had a bunch of wannabes on TUF. They all want to look the part, tat themselves up, talk the talk, wear the sponsor clothing and are by far one of the most media infused nations in the world with it's people over confident (read arrogant) in their abilities that it spills over perfectly into their 5 mins of fame on tv. When I see shows like that, I feel so much more proud to be an Aussie!

- Humble, I never said the victim was not an adult. There was a question in this thread on what makes an offence an aggravated sexual assault. The circumstances of aggravation include under age, after a break-in, in company etc. The allegation will be one of the other factors - he broke in, was with someone else, or someone else was injured during the offence.
Sonni, the jungle boy, unfortunately is damaged goods. He has come from a war torn country and that is something that thankfully most of us will never understand. I remember him saying that a lot of his family and friends were killed in conflict.
Africa can be brutal. A mate of mine was an Aussie army medic and went over with the UN to Rwanda. Having been present at a genocide of over 5000 people at a place called Kibeho, it has knocked him around badly. War does that.

Yeh Steve, I know you didn't but then it throws out the part about Aggravated "could be" is what I wanted to point out, in Sonni's case anyway, whatever the truth may be.
