Just went and got a mad sleeve tattoo from Ajarn Lao and I am very happy with it. If anyone is interested contact Nugget on his facebook and try and book a place as its not often someone of Ajarn experience comes to Australia.

Looks great Wayne, nice job. And Spano, a 'thai tatt' it most definitely ain't. It's a serious under-taking with strict guidelines to adhere to.

Are you getting anymore done Wayne?

I have heard time after time about the strict guidelines associated with these tattoos. Could someone shed some light on what they might be. I am interested in receiving sak yant tatts but do not want to be seen as a tryhard or making a mockery of something i really don't understand that well. thanks:)

Then, imo,i wouldnt get one.Let me ask you this.If you were NOT a Catholic, dont really believe in the concept of a higher being, namely God,would you just walk into a church and ask the priest not only to Baptise you but that you want to recieve all the sacrements that go with it.

Why,then, would you want to be tattooed or recieve SakYant if you dont fully understand or more to the point really believe in what the Yant will do for you.Not that youve said this im just making a point.

Its great you have asked about SakYant but dont be just another Thai boxer who wants to get some SakYant on his back to look more cool in the gym or come fight night.

These tattoos are taken very seriously here in Thailand and some have gone on national TV proudly showing shotgun wounds they got hit with and proclaim how it was the Yant that saved their life.

In 10 or 15 yrs time would you still recite your chants? Do you really believe that the Yants offer, some may say, supernatural powers?

I respect Sak Yant highly and as a result i will not recieve one,i have my own beliefs in life.
I believe SakYant, like Christianity and Bhuddism is a path that one must believe in wholeheartedly.

I am open to most things in life and i never rule out anything,so when i have spoken to monks about SakYant i respectfully listen to what they say and keep an open mind.

You can, however get a really nice Thai style Tattoo.

Tattoos are a lifelong decision and this is only my opinion,we are all individuals and you must do whats best for you.

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks samui, what you said makes perfect sense. Obviously its not for me, i don't commit to things i don't believe in. Totally appreciate your input. Hellfighter, why wouldn't i use an alias or nickname. I'm not fussed who knows who i am.. I never say anything on here i regret or don't mean. There are people who use their actual names on here.

Hi Hell,i am under the impression that people on here dont like to read long posts but in this case i am wrong.

Dont worry Crispi, recieving Sak Yant went through my mind many, many times but didnt because of the things i have just mentioned.

By looking at photos in IK mag,it seems that Sak Yant has gotten very popular among fighters.

Also, it was or still is very popular with criminals in Thailand and people with the Yants, criminals or not got a bad rep.

I instead got an awsome Thai design tattoo and im very happy with it.

I was able to speak with Willy, a disciple who travelled with Ajahn Lao on his visit to Brisbane last year. During our conversations, Willy made it quite clear that it isn't necessary to be of Buddhist faith to receive Sak Yant. Willy provided information relevant to the various pieces of Sak Yant art and the spiritual involvment one must commit to reap full benefit. I don't think people should be put off merely because they don't practice Buddhism.

Samui, I think it's the protection and other favourable attributes Sak Yant offers that attracts fighters.

Correct. Sak-yant is a nice blend of Buddhism, Animism and Hinduism, and local customs and lore.

I like the idea of getting a tattoo and it means something. Wayne has a few that are to make a punch or elbow more dangerous. Yod got same thing on his left hand. I am not keen at the moment partially cause I am Catholic, but also I will be old one day and I don't want to look like a crazy tattooed Nanny.

I was baptised Catholic also, but wasn't raised too strict (except when the Great-Aunt dragged us to Sunday School)... each Yant has it's own special meaning and I say my kathas with the heartfelt respect that the Yants and words deserve

Cool Rexy, go Jesus. But, I am a practicing Catholic, not a great one, but still try to follow the guidelines. I would not get one. But, I am not judging any bad Catholics that get them... Ha, ha, ha. Joking. I think they are nice, but not for me.

Probably enough ink in the Parr household already lol

It is a very individual thing and not something I think anyone should do unless they want to do it for the right reasons and not because it is the "in" thing to do. Needless to say nursing homes in 40-50 years are going to have some freaky looking old people with all sorts of saggy tats there way our generation is going lol

samui, good point but have you worn a monkong or prajeet when you have fought?

samui

samui, good point but have you worn a monkong or prajeet when you have fought?Hi Hunter, yes i wore the arm bands and had the Mongkon placed on my head.I did so out of respect for the traditions of the sport.
I had very little understanding about these amulets at the time and today i still know little.

I had the Monkon bleesed at the temple but in hindsight, seeing that i didnt fully understand,i shouldnt have got it bleesed.

Its my belief that its the quality of your camp, hard training, natural talent and or hard work to get good that will get you through your fights.

I do however, believe in fate and good luck and bad luck,so i genuinely believe in sealing off the ring.

How many boxers truly believe in the MT regalia that they wear???

Does it make you a hypocrite if you wear it but deep down dont truly believe???

Muay Thai is such a different world,i love watching the little rituals that the Thais do,the deep spiritual beliefs that they hold that cross over to the MT ring.

I am in no way a MT expert or Sak Yant expert but a few people have said that i make good points about both subjects so this makes me feel better about talking about these things.

I was baptised a Catholic and there is heaps i dont understand and a few things, which i wont discuss, that i dont agree with at all.

2 things i got taught was never to argue over politics and religion but i enjoy to discuss and learn more about Yants and MT.
