Elliot ‘Bully Boy’ Compton, a 22-year-old fighter based in Brisbane, grew up in the gym and has been trained by his dad Steve in multiple martial arts from a very young age.

Inspired by 1960’s superstar Bruce Lee and fuelled by his dad’s lifelong involvement in martial arts, Elliot’s interest was outstanding and rare for a child of his age. His training started in the arts of Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai and Filipino Kali when he was five years old. Although Elliot trained all through his childhood in many different styles, he always favoured Muay Thai. After turning 16 and being introduced to new friends and a life outside the gym and getting into a bit of strife and falling off the rails for a short period, Elliot returned to the gym at 18 and started getting back into shape, building his personal training business and working towards having his first fight.

At the beginning of 2008 Elliot and his dad booked in for a three-week training trip to Thailand, where Elliot was asked to take a fight on one day’s notice. The fight program, all written in Thai, had Elliot down as the ‘Main Event Super Fight’.

It soon became apparent that Elliot’s opponent was a very experienced fighter as someone in the stadium announced that this guy had around 200 fights and this was to be his last before retiring! When asked, “What do you want to do?” Elliot replied, “We came all this way so lets do it and see what happens.”

The fight was stopped at the end of round four and Elliot had lost, but despite taking a bit of a beating and sustaining a big cut on the forehead, Elliot knew that the sport was going to be a big part of his future and has committed himself to training in Muay Thai ever since.

After a shaky start to his fight career and fighting in a weight class a bit too heavy, he has now adjusted to a weight better suited and has had great success as an amateur, winning his last eight fights in a row and is looking forward to stepping up and fighting on some larger shows and testing himself against stronger opponents.

In 2010 Elliot was chosen to be a sponsored fighter by Fairtex and represented them successfully in December 2010 at Thepprassit Stadium in Pattaya, cutting his Thai opponent in the first round with a beautiful spinning elbow and finishing with a TKO victory via a well timed head-kick in round two.

Elliot travels to Fairtex Bangplee regularly throughout the year and is particularly popular with the Thai trainers in light of his very Thai style and his hard work ethic. Fairtex have asked him to represent them at Lumpini Stadium on his next visit to Thailand, hopefully later this year or early 2012.

Although a Thai stylist, Elliot maintains and combines his knowledge of other martial arts into his arsenal of techniques, which can be seen in his strong boxing and ability to change tactics as the fight progresses.

Another milestone in Elliot’s career was his South Pacific title defence against a tough WMC New Zealand Champion. A hard scrappy fight at times with both men landing big shots on each with neither fighter taking a backward step. Elliot’s big dumps, explosive kicks and spinning elbows saw him retain his belt and really showed spectators and fight fans that he’s not afraid to mix it up at any range.

Training out of a small but very successful gym in Auchenflower, Brisbane, that is host to an array of fighters on the Australian fight circuit, Elliot’s dad Steve has been the striking coach of Australian MMA superstar Adrian Pang and the Integrated MMA team for the last seven years. Elliot spends his days running his personal training business and training alongside some of the country’s top fighters.

Elliot and his trainers are very excited about the road ahead and would like to thank the following people for their continuing support: Sean Hannam, Adrian Pang, Blair Studley, NTG, Fairtex & Fairtex Bangplee, Designer Muscle, Bad Apples Tattoo & BOH Dental. IK
